leslie sanchez and bob shrum. to vote for their party that would spell doom for them? today romney had a chance to chip away at obama's lead in that community. he was speaking to a group of hispanic leaders at the national association of latino elected and appointed officials in florida. after last week's executive order from president obama on halting deportations from some illegal residents, romney was expected to clarify where he stands on that issue. how'd he do? let's take a look. >> last week the president finally offered a temporary measure. he called it a stopgap measure. that he seems to think will be enough to get him through the election. some people have asked if i will let stand the president's executive order. the answer is i will put in place my own long-term solution that will replace the president's temporary measure. as president i won't settle for stopgap measures. i'll work with republicans and democrats to build a long-term solution. >> leslie, did he offer today that which you thought he needed to close that gap in the latino community? >> i did.

i'm joining by bob shrum. you wrote a fascinating article on this. when did it come to you?is thing on which he wouldn't say if he would repeal. he said, this fits a pattern. if he gets asked about bain, he flees, he says it will destroy medicare when it will help it. i had a headline, he wanted this election, he wants this election to be a pure referendum. his question is, how do you feel about the economy? if you don't feel all that good, maybe you ought to take a chance on me. dewey's question was, a referendum, who is more presidential. he thought he was more presidential, to me, he seems stiff there. in facts, he and romney both resemble a description as dewey as the little man on the wedding came. >> can romney get away with being nonspecific until november? >> it's going to be tough. romney is going to get asked the questions. if he ducks the questions and ducks them conspicuously, people are going to figure out he's not on their side, and by the way, when he's asked the question could things get worse, the answer is yet. >> the difference is the money. romney is goin

i'm joined by bob shrum. jonathan, what can we expect from democrats in tomorrow's vote.ow many do you think will turn on the attorney general and the president? >> well, the indications are five of them. they should be ashamed of themselves. ed, if you read the article in fortune, it is an astonishing piece of journalism, and what it tells you is that everything that everybody thinks they know about this case is untrue. and they nail it. there actually was never any gun walking program to start with. it's hard to believe that when you read the piece, you know, i really urge viewers to read this article. what's happened here is you have a committee chairman who is basically joe mccarthy on steroids who will twist any fact, bend any piece of information he can, to try to destroy the attorney general and the president and to get himself in the headlines. i don't say that lightly. you know me well enough to know i'm not a bomb thrower, but this is really disgusting. we need somebody like a joseph welch in the mccarthy era to say, have you no sense of decency, mr. chairman? p
