i'm joined tonight by bob shrum and war saw professor of politics. us tonight, anita turner former ohio state senator. senator, you first tonight. what do you make of this polls? hillary clinton strong but kasich so close in ohio. what do you make of that? >> ed and a woman shall lead them. i think we should see it as the glass half full. it's fab luck that former secretary of state hillary clinton is in a statistical dead heat. that is a wonderful and beautiful thing. it shows that those in the heartland are certainly ready for hillary. >> bob is this a save your energy moment for hillary clinton? these poll numbers, there doesn't seem to be any credible challenger out there. we know where the money is going to go at least it seems like t. and it's getting to be the hourglass turned on possible challengers if they want a grass-roots effort. your thoughts on this? >> i don't think you're wrong on the timing. first of all, by the way, i'm surprised that bush isn't further ahead. it's basically a one-point race in florida, and he's way behind in ohio.

nobody better on this subject than bob shrum. bob, good to have you with us tonight. >> good to be here. >> is this about boehner? what is this? what's the dichotomy of the house that's holding this up as you see it? >> it is about boehner. he's more concerned about saving his speakership than he is about defending the country. there's a structural problem here as well. in the house because of gerrymandering, you have a lot of folks who are more worried about being primaried from the right than they are about a general election. why did the senate act more responsibly? because you have a whole lot of republicans who have to run in 2016 many of them in blue states. republicans have to stop putting bull blank in essential bills, but i think we're going to see a real crisis here when this three-week extension fails, which it apparently is going to fail. if it does fail, they're going to have to go back to the drawing boards because they're going to be held responsible if the dhs is defunded. >> the republicans have made a living on s

. >> bob shrum, is kasich a sleeper? he has the media moxie. he knows how to win elections.t's wrong from my perspective is his claims about ohio are economic lunacy. the jobs are not created by budget surpluses. they were created by the auto bailout, by what the president did. he might be a very intriguing candidate because he looks a little moderate. he's very conservative. you cited the medicaid expansion, but in republican primaries he's going to have to move very far to the right to try to get that nomination. >> john nichols, kasich wants to elevate an agenda that endangers unions. he has tried that before hasn't had the success of walker. what does it mean? >> kasich has a better story to tell than scott walker. scott walker took on the unions and unlike ohio he was able to pursue his agenda all the way through. it hasn't resulted in surpluses. it hasn't given wisconsin a good bottom line and so the truth of the matter is that there's a reality developing in the republican field that i think is a pretty ugly one and that is you sort of get your points by having beaten
