host: bobby scott, a member of the jewish year raid committee -- member of the judiciary committee. one of the hardest-hit states in the country regarding automatic spending cuts. what is your view on where this will all end up? guest: my district includes parts of norfolk, portsmouth, richmond. southeast virginia has a heavy military presence. lots of naval shipyards, langley air force base, and others in the area. and heavy shipbuilding with a new shipyard. it's the only place you can build an aircraft carrier. any cutbacks in defense will heavily impact our economy. one economist estimates one half of the economy of hampton roads is the. department of the we are very concerned. there has not really been any discussion. it has not been serious. we need a trillion dollars over 10 years to offset the cost of a sequester. if we come up with $1 trillion in debt as a production, that would be sufficient. there's no serious. serious from some members of congress they are saying how bad a sequester would be and how we have to find $1 trillion in deficit reduction. this week they suspende

bobby jindal has canceled plans to speak at the republican national convention. he would not lead this state while it is threatened by tropical storm isaac. florida governor rick scotts he will not attend any, chance events until at least wednesday. paul ryan has postponed his trip till wednesday. the wisconsin congressman say brian will fly to tampa tomorrow. 2 feet officials have already extended until tomorrow. two people died in the neighboring dominican republic after they were swept away in a river. some of them died after their homes fell on them. haiti is prone to flooding and land sites. some bad news today. it is pretty bad. lori: wish you had better news for us, j. tropical storm isaac bearing west threatening to make landfall. we are tracking isaac's every move. >> we have a new advisory at 2:00 o'clock that will tell us the wind speeds and there is indication that we may have a hurricane on our hands sooner or later. i will show you where the location is of this storm system. it is around 300 miles away from the mouth of the mississippi. i will show you that satellite. okay, we can show you that one as well. weather eight. if you put that one up, i can

the top of the show that governor rick scott will have his happeneds full, dealing with hurricane isaac, he has opted out of his speech. we got confirmation from bobby jindal's office that so long as the people of louisiana are in peril or harm's way of this storm, including the city of new orleans, he will delay his departure, so long as the state might be a target. we are hearing that another gulf coast governor, rick bryant won't be leaving his state until he is convinced that his people are safe, his office saying that safety is their primary consideration. so in terms of juggling, three governors, two of which are scheduled to speak. so there are openings, becoming available. but they are trying to preserve as many of the speakers as possible and look for tuesday to be a little bit longer of a day. we are told that that is likely where the roll call vote will be, where the mitt romney address will be and it will be a longer day to try to squeeze in the speakers. shallshannon. >> shannon: steve, thank you very much. haley barbour has had to deal with a lot of hurricanes in his lifetime, including in 2008, at the start of the g.o.p., when gustav
