the faa approving the boeing 787 certification plan. cnbc's phil lebeau has the latest on what this may mean for boeing. phil? >> melissa, this is a path for boeing to follow to hopefully get the 787 dreamliner back in service, perhaps four, five, six weeks from now, once they've done some test flights, when they've done more analysis of the tests they're going to run in the subsequent weeks. here's essentially what the faa has set out for boeing. it has approved boeing plan for fixing the dreamliner battery system. that plan calls for redesigning the lithium ion batteries, redesigning the case that holds the battery unit, and also calling for great er checks, if um, so that the crews that work on the dreamliner will be able to better monitor if there are any problems with these lithium ion batteries. there are going to be two dreamliners that will be going up for test flights. and there are specific test criteria that boeing will have to meet before the faa says you know what, we think this fix works, we approve it, all completely acro

ryan air ceo michael o'leary gives a colorful description of boeing's dreamliner safety concerns. reducing the issues with the new jet's lithium ion batteries to "regulatory crap," the outspoken o'leary calls the scrutiny of boeing "unfair commentary." the budget carrier is understandably pro-boeing, as it handed the plane-maker an order yesterday for 175 jets worth $16 billion. the affymax drug company in palo alto, california needs a quick remedy. the stock is down more than 85%, trading around $1. also, 75% of the staff is gone after the only drug it has on the market was recalled. concerns about the anemia drug omontys include the possiblity of death in patients. affymax hopes to rectify the causes of the safety concerns. a "mini" launch is taking place at the chicago board options exchange. as of this week, traders can buy "mini" options. the options are "small versions" of large, high-priced companies such as google and apple. investors only buy 10 shares as opposed to the hundred or more tied to the typical options contract. alan knuckman of option shop says this could help

this is boeing with the best case scenario.to get the jumbo dreamliner back in action within a week or so. boeing is also saying they're a third of the way the process through, the retesting of the lithium ion batteries. faa has been really rigorously testing the batteries, they don't want to go through another hazardous situation where there's fire. the question mark that is still hanging over boeing and the dreamliner is this: what caused the fires? we still don't know what the root causes were. we're not hearing yet, rather, from boeing what are the root causes of those fires. we're waiting on that. but i'll tell you something, boeing is trending up toward a 52-week high in the stock price. they just sealed a $15 billion plus deal with ryan air, so boeing is still selling planes. whether or not the dreamliner gets back in action within the next week or so remains to be seen. it may still be a few months out. i'm going to give it back to you guys. tracy: e. mac, thank you for that. it boggles my mind they can't figure it out
