bonnie schneider tracking the weather this morning. hey, bonnie, good morning. >> good morning. this is a big storm system impacting a lot of places. and it will impact air travel. so for those of you looking for a weekend getaway, be careful. there may be delays out there. another place you have to use caution, i would imagine, this morning is in virginia because a tornado rolled through, and it really caused for concern. take a look at this video. this was shot by a woman in her car. you can see that flying debris circling around. imagine how scary this is to be driving and seeing something like that. and then thinking quick on your feet to capture it. this is in quantico, virginia. that is scary stuff. it's been a stormy start to the season certainly in october across the mid-atlantic. but now we're shifting our focus a little bit to the great lakes. you can see rain sweeping across michigan, detroit, on into buffalo. but rain is not the biggest concern with this storm system. it really is the wind. this is a whipping wind that's going to take the waves and rise them high int

bonnie schneider has a check of weather. for parts of the country, right? fall is here. >> fall is here, but you wouldn't know it in atlanta for sure. it's been so warm. we've been enjoying temperature in the 80s. it's feeling like summertime. that's all going to change because we are anticipating some changes in the forecast. notice this big, warm area over the southeast. high temperatures today will be soaring to 85 in atlanta. that may very well shatter a record because look at these record numbers. you can see the record high for today is actually 85 set back in 1941. let's go outside now and wake up to the southeast. we can show you that we're looking at a beautiful morning as the sun comes up over the city. we are going to see change, as i mentioned, in the forecast not just for atlanta but for a good portion of the midwest and the great lakes. gorgeous morning out there. notice the rain sliding through chicago. some heavy downpours anticipated all moving into the chicagoland area now. and that's sliding into detroit,

time for a check of the weather with bonnie schneider. good morning.retty strong storms brewing over the great lakes, right? >> they're big ones looking at potential for waves to climb up to 12 feet across lake superior today and see a lot of wind across the great lakes and really much of the northeast, as well. i'll show you where the rain is coming down and not necessarily the big picture, what we are looking at for this story, heavy downpours in detroit and even thunderstorms erupting in buffalo. buffalo your current temperature's 48 degrees and cool morning out there and wet one, too. notice the winds. sustained winds at 40 miles per hour. the gusts climb well above 50 miles per hour and because of that we're not only monitoring strong winds in the great lakes but the northeast. even new york city is under a wind advisory so the winds could gust as high as 50 miles per hour there. and that will impact travel. we're anticipating lot of delays. you can see the wind advisories from wisconsin, michigan in to maine and some of the warnings where the win

about two minutes before the top of the hour, want to get a quick check of the weather with bonnie schneider. >> we're clocking strong winds in michigan. we just got this, gusts are soaring 56 miles an hour. forecast calls for strong winds to persist throughout the day today. that will impact your travel and also possibly cause damage because winds are so strong we could see power outages. forecast calls for strong winds in the new york area, straight through the midwest as we go through the next few days. anticipating airport delays to all the cities you see here. that will stretch from the midwest to the northeast because the winds will persist in this region as well. in terms of your forecast for the rest of your week, as this area of low pressure dissipates, the next big story is a temperature drop. now we're moving into the latter part of october. while the highs are in the mid-80s across the south, a big change by tuesday. cold air will plummet to the south. that brings highs into the 40s for parts of the great lakes and into the 60s here in the south. even cities like dallas, texas, w
