i missed cory booker. in some ways i disagree a lot with kamala harris, but it is important to see women of color. it was not great to see that sometimes some candidates were asked about issues such as s rae or immigration, criminal justice reform did not come up as much. they changed the topic many times or just the topic does not come up at all. we have a huge impact on howow they're trying to cater to the first states. most of them spend most of their time in iowa right now, where there is a community -- the latino community, very small community of people of color compared too nevada and other states, but it makes a difference in the way they're really talking about the issues. probably at the beginning of the year, they will not talk about immigration or issues that people care about. amy: we spoke to the head of the texas democratic party who said he has been trying to hold the presidential forum in texas and the candidates just keep saying, this is particular significant because of how long the lead

right at the beginning he was asked about comments that cory booker made about the increasing lack ofow in the top tier of the democratic race and bloomberg sort of brushed it off and said well he supported me once, he sat on my board and well-spoken and those are buzzwords for black and latino candidates, minorities all across the country who heard too much of that, but looking for an apologize, the more effective answer was to the question the fact he is entering this question he is bankrolling and an argument he made for mayor i am paying for this on my own. i won't accept a salary, therefore, i can't be bought. everyone sells doing the same thing but they are asking other people for money, and they will owe somebody a favor at some point with he you don't have that. you noels who made that argument? donald trump and guess what? it worked and who is he trying . the people that will go back and forth between the parties who went with donald trump. he is loading 60 million on tv and radio so far, 5 million across digital plat forms if you are an american with a tv or a phone you have

what's cory booker's paths to victory given where you are right now? polling, combined polling of 2.5%. you said you've blown past what is needed for the next debate in terms of money. what's your path to victory as you see it? >> well, we know that iowa is going to be the starting line. and we think that just like obama when he showed his strength there -- remember, he was polling, 15, 20 points behind hillary clinton on national polls. nobody who's ever been polling ahead has gone on to win the presidency from the parties. we'll go the pathway of carter, clinton, both of whom in the single digits, obama, 2 or so points behind -- 2 0 or so suspends went. by the time we get to the primary states and caucus states we are going win in south carolina. and i'll tell you this, there is no pathway to the presidency without being able to revive that obama coalition. and that includes the urgency of minority votes. remember, there's flow pathway to the presidency. we can't beat donald trump if we see the same thing we saw in 2016 which is a big lag or fall of

cory booker met the donor threshold but has not qualified in any of the polls.close to making the cut, at least as far as we know. so many observers are wondering how did the most diverse democratic field in history wind up with a debate stage that could only feature white candidates. joining me now, president of brilliant corners research, cornell belcher. and former democratic congressman and "washington post" columnist, donna edwards. guys, welcome. polling is part of this scenario. is it fair to use polling as a threshold to get to the debate stage? >> well, it's tough. we need a broader conversation because, look, i'm reading the articles talking about how, you know, senator harris campaign wasn't perfect, we got spilled by barack obama. barack obama was a phenomenon. if you go back before barack obama, there's not a lot of people of color that break through. people o and i think so the problem is -- is more structural. so i don't come here to condemn the -- the process. i come here to, quite franfrank condemn the whole establishment because there are issue

the letter was written by cory booker's campaign.ns us now from manchester, new hampshire. tell us more about what this letter says. >> reporter: yes, this letter was spearheaded by senator cory booker's campaign and got all seven of the debate stage candidates for thursday's debate to sign on to it, as well as former -- as well as julian castro signed on to the letter as well. the letter points to a lack of diversity on the debate stage as a critical condition for ranting the dn consider. to open up qualifications not just accepting the grassroots donor threshold or the polling, not a combination of the two. the letter says, quote, the escalating thresholds over the past few months have unnecessarily and artificially narrowed what started as the strongest and most diverse democratic field in history before voters have had a chance to be heard. so the letter comes as it appears booker was not going to appear on the debate stage and calling on the dnc to ease up on the qualifications looking at future debates in january and february.
