corey booker had one of the earliest organizations on the ground here in iowa.loyal supporters and they did not necessarily always get picked up in the polls, but they had, a core group of supporters across the state. so i am told by a variety of ther campaigns that they are going after the supporters. i talked to one county official of the chair of the county chair in dallas county bryce smith who said that pete buttigieg campaign called him six minutes after corey booker dropped out. so there is a scramble to get on to the booker supporters, but tomorrow, the debate is the last big moment for the candidates to have a break-out moment and gain momentum for the three-week stretch. it is clear that we are seeing, you know, bernie sanders already going after joe biden and the extraordinary back and forth with elizabeth warren and bernie sanders and so certainly tensions are high, and jake, we just learned that all presidential candidates are coming to des moines and even donald trump. he coming for a rally four days before the iowa caucuses. jake. >> and jeff zele

booker says he doesn't see a path now to victory. how much do you think this final decision came down to a lack of money? >> hi there, brianna, good to be with you. i had a chance to talk to the campaign this morning, and i think what happened for them is they -- it really became more and more clear to them over the weekend that senator booker did not have a path forward. they talked about the double whammy of the looming impeachment trial and the fact that he was not able to make the debate stage tomorrow for the second time here. you know, the debates really had been for senator booker a boost for him, particularly in terms of fundraising. if you remember the last time he was on the debate stage in atlanta, his closing argument was really a pitch to voters to keep him in the race, and that literally bought him some more time in the campaign. so the fact he wasn't able to do that on his own was certainly a chal challenge, but combined with the fact he won't be able to be on the campaign trail the next three weeks heading into the io

cory booker has been waging a strong campaign for the last year.not make the final debate before the iowa caucuses is pretty devastating. andrew yang to a lesser degree because he has a core following. this large field has winnowed down and some still upset about these rules. no mistaking it. these are the rules in place. by not making the debate stage, very difficult for cory booker to make the argument to iowa voters he is still one of the top candidates. that does not mean they're not important. the iowa caucuses second choice can be so critical. here is why, all the cory booker fans out there and other supporters have a choice to make. if they're not viable, if their candidate does not make 15% on the night of the caucuses, you can choose a second choice. it is the second choice of supporters of senator booker and others, if they're not viable, that is so key and why the biden campaign and buttigieg campaign are going after second choice candidates because that can make or break a campaign as well here. that is why the math and organization her

both cory booker and pamela harris both failed in that regard. it was a very predictable, but to him confusing situation, but the rest of us were not surprised at all. and i think it is on fortunate that i have to talk to a candidate than you dropping out is just a footnote. nobody cares. >> speaking as an afro and can american woman one of the things that sort of frustrated myth cory booker is his constant reminder of him growing up in the hood. if that was the only thing that was connecting him to black voters. i grew up in the ghetto, i lived in the ghetto, and at some point you have to say and a lot of us still do. so what are you going to do to help us get out of that situation? so i just don't think he resonated well with them. but when i look at the top for now, basically facing off of those polls in iowa, i feel at the democrats now have what they think represents their party. they have two old white men, a moderate and a socialist. they have a woman and they have a young gay man. and that seems to be what they are going after. if that's

amy: you decided to run against senator booker. booker has just pulled out of the race. don't know if that has anything to do with you announcing right before he pulled out that you are going to be challenging him. >> i was surprised that senator booker pulled out before the iowa caucus. he had been saying his strategy was similar to that of barack obama and that obama was in a similar position vis-a-vis the was. in 2008 as he but that after iowa, the obama campaign took off. so when senator booker announced the other day he was pulling out, i was quite surprised. i thought he was going to go through to iowa. but the fact is, he withdrew because his campaign was not getting traction. he just could not break through 4%, 3%, even some places lower than that. i am running for u.s. senate because i think we are going to need more senators in the senate that support our progressive political agenda. when bernie sanders wins the democratic primary, when he wins the nomination, and whwhen he gs to the white house, , he is goig any peoplple in the senate that are going to fight

. >> booker t. washington was, for 20 years was the spokesman and leader of african-americans in america. and at the time, we had horrible jim crow race codes in the south. that didn't happen here in west virginia. it was a different sort of race relations. and what he observed with his boyhood heroes was the building of a black middle class. and that really became his path, his career path as he went from tuskegee to being a national celebrity. booker was born in a place called hails ford south of roanoke, virginia. about 225 miles from here. and in those first nine years, he was a slave boy. he didn't have pants. he wore a slave boy's shirt. shoes were two wooden slats with a piece of leather across each -- across the top. he wanted very much to go to school. he saw white children going to school, he wanted to do that. but he really wasn't able to do any of those things. they leave the farm in virginia in 1865, pretty soon after the civil war ends. there's a soldier, a union soldier, who comes to

some of this has to fall on cory booker himself.rate really is anxious right now. no one wants to love us out of babies in cages. no one wants to love us out of white nationalists shooting up shopping malls. no one wants to love us out of people's economic anxieties, black, white, hispanic, and everywhere else around the country. so i think his messaging might have been a couple years too late. i will also say this. i think this is important about what we might face tomorrow with booker not be twlg and several other people. this does necessarily fall to whether or not bernie sanders said it, whether or not elizabeth warren said it. it falls to what you feel about these candidates in general. it falls to do you believe them? it falls to, look, i will raise my hand right now. if you had asked me in 2006, would america ever elect a black man, i would have said no. so if bernie sanders said i don't think a woman is going to get elected because america is too sexist, that's fundamentally different than saying i don't think a woman should

that something booker has been talking about. what do you say about that?h so, he has talked about this a lot, and made appeals blessing at his email list saying, "i need the donors, the support, the numbers, or else we will have this all white debate stage." as this has been an overt part of his plea but it's not seen and move up in the polls. while you ask democratic voters, "do you want to see a diverse field?" they would say yes, absolutely. but when you asked them with the number one thing is they care about and their nominee, the answer is, "who can be donald trump?" that's what i see this firestorm over bernie versus biden. it's considered so high-stakes, democrats want to beat trump so badly. cory booker was never able through the debates to demonstrate that he could be the one who could really take on trump. thathe could still be a very formidable vice presidential candidate. he could still wind up being a very big piece of the democratic ticket, to be someone who is very vocally out there for the front runner were fully ultimate nominee making the

cory booker.ld not suggest that cory booker is lazy, but i do think the campaign from the beginning, he could not find his footing. he did not come at your point, have a message. he was neither and that progressive bernie sanders, elizabeth warren wang, nor he was in the moderate wing. very similar, sort of, to the senator from california, just simply could not get his message out there, i would just suggest, that as we look at those polls, being a pollster i will say there is always a margin of error. this is not a runaway for bernie sanders. the same polls we are seeing out of new hampshire, it is going to depend a lot on south carolina, then nevada, let's not forget, bernie sanders and elizabeth warren could well be trapped in washington, d.c., six days a week without speaking at this trial goes forward. bill clinton's trial was 37 days. that will bring you through nevada. this thing is going to change. >> harris: who does that help? >> jeanne: i think it helps joe biden and pete buttigieg out

and just, first on senator booker bowing out, and how does his, how does that change the race? is going to have a dramatic impact on the race for the remaining candidates, but although here in iowa, brook, it was ts the plac in iowa where he had the most organization, and so he had committed voters. he was not registering a ton in the polls and not a slew of voters up for grabs, but the committed core supporters are now g oing to be wooed by some f the remaining candidates in the race. but senator booker made clear all along if the funding was not there all along, he was not going to be staying in the race to have his name on the ballot, and it is clearly wasn't. not getting on the december debate stage and not meeting the january threshold is a huge blow to any campaign and it was insurmountable for senator booker, and add in the impeachment factor where he would have to show some strength here in iowa, he will be sitting in a trial in the united states senate. >> i wanted to ask you about the former new york mayor bloomberg who is not going to be on the debate stage, but he s

what do the booker supporters think on a day like this?it's a big deal for the remaining candidates. you look at the numbers and they're all within touching distance of one another. when those will be a big priority to all of these candidates. we've seen elizabeth warren reaching out to supporteders of other people that have left the race. it's an important jostle but in a place like iowa, it was tough for cory booker to get beyond a reasonable doubt 4%. the voters don't look like the voters in the rest of the electorate in the country and it's a tougher race for them and the inability to raise money, made it difficult for him to stay in. >> you said, as i was asking, your prognostications. you said remember how much energy, how much fuel iowa or a new hampshire right now. at the end of the day in iowa does that still hold? the top person get it is fuel or a muddle where there's like everybody does okay and perhaps someone gets credit for being a surprise? >> i'll tell you, peter. the point i was making which you remember well is we spend
