and michael korda, of course, has been featured on booktv as 989. you started in publishing, whatof t major changes in how books are well, certainly audio books are a much bigger part of our business. i think when started, they they barely existed and now they might be 25% of our sales. and so that's big change. and it's also a very exciting are a lot of people who will never buy a but ey will listen to could mean that we're going to be getting our books to an entirely new audience of readers and also a much bigger one, because i think that only about half of the people in the country actually buy a book in given year and that other half they might be willing to listen. to an audiobook. so that's a big change. changes is amazon and have the the apotheosis of of digital online bookselling and the fact that people can order a book and have it pretty much instantly either as an e-book or an audio book or the next day or a couple of days later. that's abig change. and it's not just amazon, of course. i mean, other retailers are selling e-books online. t

and now joining us on booktv v is author jonah winner. he is a children's book author. he's written over 40 children and books. many award winning, mostly published random house topics include ruth bader ginsburg, roberta willie mays, sonia sotomayor. barack obama. muhammad ali. hillary clinton. thurgood marshall, etc., etc. what of children's books do you write? mr. winter well, i write on about a broad range of topics, but generally what i have been writing about until few years ago, i should say i had been writing about were books about people who don't share my identity. so a lot of books on people of color and books on women books about racial and social justice. i write books about baseball players and artists and musicians. i write children's book, nonfiction picture picture book biographies, picture book nonfiction, specifically and recently the, last few years, i've been writing more fiction for reasons having to do with certain changes in publishing world and in my career. but that's generally the sort of books i've been writing. my first book was the ego abou

yoga i'm a worker cooperative member here and i also want to at the outset say thank you to c-span booktv for extending their their resources to recording and broadcasting tonight's discussion as well. i've had the pleasure of hosting various book discussions with michael going back almost 15 years now. so it's a distinct honor to be able to welcome michael to a home grown that we have collectively endeavored to create here in philadelphia. um, as you may know, michael hardt is the coauthor with antonio of a classic trilogy of radical political texts empire in 2000 multitude year 2004 and commonwealth in 2009. that didn't there with the trilogy followed up with declaration in 2012 and then assembly in 2016. that whole set of texts work extremely well together and and are both reflections of inquiry in the moment of a number of complicated processes unfolding a planetary scale. and i think have a lot to reflect not only the moment that they were written in, but but also looking backwards. michael teaches political theory in the literature at duke university and is co-director with sandra m
