the website booktv dot org. org. well, now joining us on booktv is tony patino. he is the coauthor of this book, creating reading rainbow the untold story of a beloved children's series. he's also the co-creator of reading rainbow. where did the concept come from? mr. patino? well, i was in instructional television and i became a coordinator of instruction. i was the interim for the public television station w.a. in buffalo, new york. and my boss came up to me and wanted to know if i wanted to be involved in something like this. so i said, sure. and as i was thinking about instructional television, i came across the idea that children do not read during the summer months and therefore it's called, you know, the mission that the idea that kids can't read, not that they can't they don't read during the summer. and when they go back to school, you know, teachers get to catch up. and i'm thinking, well, television could do something about that. and i was sure of that. and so we started looking into the possibilities of running some programs during the summer. and we
