the boomers are not going to be richer than the generation before them. i should add something else. as you know, the majority of people over 85 are women, overwhelmingly. women are poorer than men. african-americans and hispanics are poorer than whites, and the gap between rich and poor ways even more heavily on the old ban on young people, because the old don't have the resources and the physical strength to go on making more money and doing things. this is going to be a bigger problem. when you are talking about what government could do, the things we need to be doing right now are thinking about a solution to save for medicare. i don't disagree that the cost of medicare is out of control. one of the terrible things is that president obama about to right-wing pressure and with through this little proposal for patients to have voluntary consultations with their doctor about door of one aggressive medical care if there is no hope that i can recover? my own mother took care of that and wrote it out in her will and gave my brother specific instructions. sh

that's what the boomers are. but there will be one person in the '80s, and this was always the case in aarp publications because articles about people who are really sick and how they cope with it, i think they are to be doing more of that. but there are also down or articles. the story i told on myself and this book was, this is many years ago, none of the editors are there now with editors have been. i was asked to do a story about people who, after a serious illness, had made the changes in their health habits and have greatly improved their lives. and the first person i thought of was the high school classmate who had a form of cancer in her 50s and she was supposed to die from, and she didn't. and when it became clear she was going to die, she responded by giving up smoking and losing 50 pounds. they ran a picture of her, she was 56 been. i swear she was so gorgeous, she looked not really, anybody would've recognized as a high school cheerleader she was. i didn't do anything -- i didn't have anybody over 64

i am actually a baby boomer, at the edge of the baby boomer, and i know that baby boomer era. there's this huge boom in a population of seniors in our city that will grow. i think by 2020, 60% of the population will be seniors, and i think some people are now defining 60 and over, but i think generally, people looking at 65 and over. that is a huge population. i'm trying to look at issues of senior nutrition programs, alzheimer's research, but even housing policies that allow our buildings to become more senior- friendly. i guess we are calling it developing an aging-friendly city. we are also looking at how to support senior services and unique neighborhood by neighborhood programs called aging in place or village models that allow people who are older or seniors getting older to be able to support each other and to stay in their homes and communities longer so they can be contributed to the community as long as possible as opposed to institutionalizing them, which costs quite a bit more. so i'm looking with senior group's ideas of how to create more aging in place programs n
