boone pickens is making a long-term bullish call on oil.ind out what's behind his forecast, after break. sglooe amazon's jeff bezos has come out on the defensive in a rare discussion in new york. he was unapoll getting about the company's stock price. he admitted that decisions have cost the tech giant billions of dollar. the company is down about 18% this year. >> it makes amazon shareholders month more and more disappointed. moving on, oil prices are down 40% since june. landon dowdy joins us with more. >> good morning, t. boone pickens has been involved in the oil and gas industry one way or another for about 50 years. so he knows about prognosticating. he expects opec to eventually move to cut production possibly in the first half of next year with saudi arabia leading the charge. pick.soffered his latest on cnbc. >> we've increased production a million barrels a year for the past three years. that is regardble. subsequently, i think you'll probably see opec do something in the first quarter of next year as far as cutting production. bu

we have boone pickens saying we're going back up. and we've got the saudi oil minister telling anybody who'll listen that $20 is a possibility, or at least, they will continue to keep production where it is, even if it goes as low as $20. >> there's going to be too much demand -- look, it could happen. '99, we had a tremendous plummet and it came right back. some things can be turned off very quickly, other things can't be turned off. it's very definitely to turn off continental resources. look, still going to have 16% growth. it's very difficult. people are underestimating the gulf of mexico, which is about to produce 500,000 more barrels president next year. where are we going to put that? where we going to put all this nat gas? >> the term mega-blood is not an exaggeration. as for boone, he said it will go back because the production cuts you're talking about will take place in the next six months. he'll take rig count down 500. >> what's interesting is that boone has emphasized demand, and if the demand -- he has said demand is w

i believe what boone pickens is right. that chuck bunch is right when he tells wells fargo that lower oil prices will eventually stimulate demand. i believe that the founder and ceo of continental resources is right, when he talks about the long-term value of continental's reserves and that the stocks are too cheap to stay here. i believe gary evans, who comes here and says his company has the financial wherewithal to pay its dividends that offer such terrific yield. nevertheless, when you get a data point like we had today with 321,000 jobs created last month and oil doesn't go up, you can bet we haven't seen the last of this nasty decline. today's action tells me that whatever production you think we're capable of delivering, it will be well in excess of that level six months from now. the sellers of the oil futures here respect just financial players betting against commodity. i think they're many marginal oil producers, fighting to bring in any income to augment their current sales so that they can live another day and

boone pickens came out said, we could go back to $100 a barrel. where do you see oil going?the same book. i own a lot of oil stocks. but, look, i think this oil decline, again, is temporary. i think it's more a market-driven phenomenon. it's technical. a lot to do with the anticipation of a tighter fed and a stronger dollar. the dollar has strengthened, but the fed has not tightened. i don't think it will because the recovery is a mirage. as more people figure this out in 2015, i think you'll see a sharp reversal in oil as well. liz: let's find out what the trade is for people watching now. >> value rates are low. interest rates that are rock bottom. this is holiday season for m&a, quite frankly. if they'll do it at any time, you'll see it especially before the end of the year for tax purposes. liz: with holiday season comes holiday broadcasts. let's get to what happened with nbc. last night, nbc aired its live musical broadcast of peter pan. live. need i say live 50 times. it had huge success with sound of music live. this time around, alison williams kind of flying around

good to have you here. >> thank you very much. >> is boone pickens right? >> i don't think so. i think, though, that oil prices will be very volatile next year. our target is $60 to $70 a barrel. texas brent, a few dollars higher than that. but i think investors have to watch out for big swings in prices next year. >> a lot of volatility. why do you think that is? >> well, what saudi arabia especially and opec more generally have done is to leave open the question of how quickly and how sharply this market might rebalance. obviously, by refusing to move their targets last month, they were challenging the market. a lot of people have interpreted that challenge as being directed as u.s. production, the frackers. but i think that challenge is more directly aimed at opec's own members who are overproducing by about a million barrels a day and very close to their own capacity. opec is saying, high, guys, let's reign it in by about a million dollars a day. that could rebalance this market. we could see prices move quite a bit next year. >> so, in other words, when you come one your f

you've had boone pickens on.e language when it comes to natural gas as a transportation fuel. and that, to me, is really the hope for america. which puts a really solid underlying foundation to both the u.s. oil patch and the u.s. gas patch for decades and decades to come. >> i think that the -- i agree. we've known about natural gas for years now, and boone's been on. we always wondered how can -- why the divergence? natural gas never traded at that level compared to crude. and we thought, well, natural gas is going to go right back up to where it's more appropriate. little did we know that maybe crude was going to come down and get closer to the equivalent of natural gas. but we knew about natural gas. this is what's been different in the past year or so, we have been producing a lot more oil. are we up? 50% in production or something? >> no. we're up a hundred percent from when i was shell oil president. we've gone from 5 million barrels a day to almost 10 million barrels a day. that's absolutely tremendous. a
