let's go straight to boris sanchez in myrtle beach, south carolina. an hour ago you had a lot of folks on the beach. they've all left. >> a lot of them have left. there are still people here, a lot of kids enjoying themselves, families enjoying the sands and blue skies. there was a couple taking wedding portraits. not the typical sight you see when there's a storm like this looming. we're expecting record breaking torrential rainfall to come in tonight and tomorrow similar to what we saw last night where you have officials trying to rescue families out of their homes because flooding was so bad. as we drove in earlier today we saw roads that were still kind of water logged, there were big puddles everywhere, bodies of water, ponds, that were very high. as we're expected to get more rain, those are expected to overflow. we also saw some apartment buildings here on the coastline, parking lots were flooded and that water is not going anywhere. obviously, officials are very concerned about the risks, because this area is water logged. there's nowhere else

what's the latest, boris? >> reporter: wolf, we've been tracking the developments on that dam breach you mentioned just a few moments ago. it is the overcreek dam, and it is in columbia, just one of at least nine dams that have breached over the past few days because of these flood waters. we're being told residents are being evacuated to a nearby high school. and officials are keeping an eye on it. that columbia is about 52 miles west of where we are now. this is the town of manning, south carolina. it's a relatively small town, but as i get out of the way you can see it has been pounded by these flood waters. behind me is highway 301. and you can't see how far the water goes here, at least a mile of flooding here. it is surrounded by businesses. we have a convenience store, a church, several restaurants nearby. one of them was helping to feed the national guard. but most of these businesses are flooded, dozens of cars are submerged, and tonight the town of manning is blacked out. there's no power here. and o

boris, you were on u.s. 17 and parts of it are crlosed. tell us the drives conditioning right now. >> reporter: it was a mess trying to get down here to georgetown. we drove from myrtle beach this morning and there were several inches of water on the highway similar to where i'm standing right now. you had to drive extremely carefully. we had several cars that had pulled over because the water was too high and in some parts he had to cross your fingers and just hope that you were going to make it through. despite those conditions, we saw a lot of drivers that were speeding not something you want to see considering that in the past two days, there had been at least three weather related traffic fatalities in south carolina alone. once we got here to georgetown, a lot of the road ares with shut down, we've seen a lot of emergency teams scattered through the city. office of emergency management told us that they have completed more than 70 rescues getting people out of their homes since 4:00 this morning. aside from that there is a lot of anc

boris sanchez, thank you so much. joining me on the phone tom barry, thanks for joining me. we know that there are evacuations near the overcreek dam. what can you tell us about this breach? >> what we have is a system of smaller lakes as part of the gills creek watershed in the arcadia lakes area of rich land county. and what happens is one lake feeds into another, feeds into another, feeds into another. so we know that there have been dam failures at the upper rocky creek dam. now, lower than that in rockford lakes and forest lake, they're being overtopped. and we are concerned about breaching for those dams as well. so there's continual flooding that is going on as was mentioned in the report and was mentioned in the governor, we're not out of this by any stretch of the imagination. >> so there's been more than one breach? or you're just steeli instealinf from one? >> these are breaches taken place over the last 24 hours or so, some took place yesterday, some are taking place as we speak. so it is a dynamic situation that is literally changing by the hour. >> nine people

let's get straight to boris sanchez live in kings tree, south carolina with the very latest. boris?, michaela. as the sun is rising, we're getting a clearer picture of the devastation in kingstree. this is several feet of water covering this entire neighborhood. that sign is under several feet of water. this is a river behind us that has gone over its banks and gone into this neighborhood. there are homes here, cars under water and this is just a devastating situation for kingstree. this river is slowly moving east, a lot of the water coming from the west where the dams have breached. this is actually going over a highway into a bridge that is still covered in water. it hasn't been opened. to give you some numbers, specific numbers we're seeing here in south carolina, 11 dams have breached or failed since saturday. 35 of them are still under observation by officials, because they're in danger of being breached. also, there are about 70 miles of i-95 that are closed in south carolina. to give you perspective, there are only about 200 miles of i-95 in south carolina. that's a huge chu
