bosco stanek at the charlottesville summit, we agreed as part of the state and to establish a set ofonalal education goals and these were going to be developed jointly by the governors o and the presidet and administration and we were hopeful to be able to announce them in the president's state of the union address in january. the conference was held the 27th and 28th of september so it basically gave us october, november, december and january to get this done. one of those goals embraced one of the most important things to come out of the summit which is we are going to try to improve student performance and hold people accountable. if you are going to hold them accountable, there has to be a standard. so, one of the goals and interestingly enough there were people falling all over themselves wanting to be one of the education goals and at the meeting i can't remember which one of us brough brought it up t but we both agreed we have to have a limited number of goals if we have more than a handful or six goals, no one will be able to remember everythin evero we have narrowed it down

chesley bosco sketched this out and made this illustration in the year i was born.y early 30s i looked at this picture and i have flown on this thing it turned out to be white i have a different shape of wing but there is one and it is a shuttle and it really does just what Ãbbrown vision was when the illustration was created. i'm assigned to put this thing into orbit when it exists. the details came on different but the idea is there, the vision that went back to the mid-40s and 1950s to a time when engineers almost didn't yet have the skills to do it has become a reality. the space station it also did not end up looking like arthur c clarke hub and spoke will of the space station it looks more like a tinker toy or a erector set. that too was on the drawing boards and the engineering was beginning to turn it from a conceptual sketch into engineering reality and into the four room house larger than a football field space station over our heads right now. that has led people living on it continually since for almost 20 years. i was stunned by this picture and how rap
