summer of 2007, a year after kennedy school and i am in boston. a bunch of personal stuff goes sideways. i am in a place where i felt i have to get out of boston and i have to get away from these emotional things that have happened that i cannot really process. i found a job in washington, d.c. for a small independent radio program that did monthly international affairs and radio documentary programs. they needed a producer. i got tired and came to d.c. and it is coming up now 17 years ago. that is the only thing that is difficult to comprehend. i started working for a program that started sending me out as what i would call a parachute journalist. i would go someplace for 1-3 weeks and gather material and then come back to washington and put together a program and then i would go back out. i immediately wanted to start going to afghanistan and iraq and all of these places that were conflict zones. there were stories of other journalist who had covered the battle of falluja and these other things. i felt a need to play catch-up. you know, again, i
