s office since boudin was elected. duban and jenkins argue that he sides with public defenders over his own staff in deciding how to charge criminals. >> if i would not simply agree to what was requested by public defender, they would go directly to him or i would receive email where he was copied indicating they want a particular outcome in the case. >> reporter: you're saying that lawyers in public defender's office can boss around the attorneys in the d.a.'s office. >> that's how it feels. >> reporter: they say leniency has proven deadly. after early release, felon never charged, drove drunk and hit and killed two women. convicted of shooting girlfriend in the stomach, duban said he was asked to request a lenient sentence. >> i was asked to defy the law. >> reporter: instead he withdrew himself. had you done that before? >> no. never withdrawn from a case before. >> put your hands together for chesa boudin. >> reporter: district attorney held antirecall rally. >> going to keep our community safe, hold those in power

two hours later, boudin's office canceled saying something had come up on the d.a.'s calendar, but promised to reschedule. and then silence. despite our repeated follow-up calls and emails. and so we filed a public records request, and got ahold of the d.a.'s calendar, which shows his commitments like staff meetings and appointments with community groups. and here is the day the d.a. was supposed to meet with us. our interview is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. but you can see his afternoon is wide open. there is no conflict listed. stefani hopes her legislation forces the d.a. to be more transparent. she says the public deserves to know how often dangerous criminals are set free. do you think people are being put in danger as a result of this? >> i do, i do. it worries me. >> reporter: you might remember on sunday we aired the first part of our investigation roving those former prosecutors who recently joined the recall campaign against their former boss. district attorney chesa boudin. they accused him of making san francisco more dangerous. well, the d.a. didn't talk to u
