super bowl city. i took a walk through the area today so the area in red is the main portion, right? justin herman plaza. in gold, that's area where you're seeing a lot of traffic because that's closed as well. you'll see some road closure extending to the moscone center where there are lounges, exhibits and activities. roll the video. see some of the activities going on. already lots to see as construction is under way. the stage for all the nfl network coverage is already up and the ferry building will provide a beautiful backdrop. workers are busy right now building the other sections including this right there, a temporary verizon store. the concert stage also getting fine tuned today. remember, there are detours even more pedestrians. i was walking through it. right now you can get through justin herman plaza, right, but soon even this area will be blocked off. that means pedestrians will have to head north or south on the embarcadero. no doubt you'll be frustrated if you get stuck in the traffic

now just ten days until super bowl 50. cities across the bay area are busy getting ready for drivers. that means detours. as we mentioned all week, several major streets already shut down in san francisco as the city gets ready to open super bowl city. the excitement is building. so is the traffic. we're tracking the trouble spots drivers are facing there. >> i want to explain this map to you. it's got the colors, but the blue denotes the closures and that's what we can see from howard on third street near fourth street, that's the moscone center and also super bowl city. you can see all those streets closed off. we'll help you get around this. bush street is already starting to see traffic getting over to first as folks get on to the bay bridge. you can use fourth street that you can curve and around get back to fifth street. obviously seventh street and van ness as well. good alternatives as we get closer to super bowl city opening, the b.a.r.t. you can head underground. they've got all their services open here. the embarcadero

as san francisco begins to come alive with the construction of the fan experience known as super bowl city. good evening to you. i'm juliette goodrich. brian hackney is off tonight. it's getting real. super bowl 50 is two weeks from today and tonight the teams are nearly set. we know the denver broncos are in. now we're waiting for their opponent. there's no waiting for super bowl city. it is going up as we speak and that's where mark kelly is tonight with a progress report. >> we're already seeing some of the bad traffic because of this super bowl city. in order to build this they had to shut down major roads in downtown including a stretch of the embarcadero behind me in order to get this thing built. >> reporter: building a city within a city isn't easy. constructing super bowl city is his job for the next week. >> there's so much going on that it's hard to keep up with everything around here. >> reporter: when this sprawling complex opened saturday, organizers promised it will celebrate the bay area's culture from local food to wine, even high tech interactive gaming for kids and adult

around washington street is where super bowl city is being constructed. if you drove into san francisco, you got down fast. northbound traffic on the embarcadero were clear. leaving downtown is another story. >> how long have you been in this? >> 45 minutes. >> reporter: he's on battery street, trying to get south of market and left an hour and a half early to make sure he can drive less than a mile for a work assignment. justin jennings traveled three blocks in a half hour. >> they had a map showing what streets were blocked off. i doesn't know it's going to be like this. this is a little bit ridiculous. >> reporter: emergency crews are having a tough time. crew members said heading back after the emergency, they'll be stuck in traffic with everyone else. he has advice for people heading here. >> take part or swim over. >> i won't drive. it's too busy. it's crowded. >> she says it won't end the traffic headache because you still have to park. >> she recommends taking public transportation if you want to see super bowl city. super bowl lanes are going to

super bowl city ready for the public and many are checking out that public in san francisco. our chopper got a view of the action from the air. tens of thousands filling the embarcadero. christie smith is in the middle of all the action. >> i tell you, it didn't take long at all for super bowl city to attract a big crowd along the embarcadero. look for yourself. a big crowd, but still a lot of room to move around. we've seen jerseys from teams in the super bowl and locals. a lot of niners fans out here representing well along the embarcadero where the interactive football game, wine, food, art and fan village has come to life. this is a place for fans to gather leading up to super bowl sunday when the panthers and broncos face off. i downloaded the app and it helped to explain what was going on every day. where the photo-opes are happening. i spoke with a couple arriving from north carolina, and their first time ever to san francisco. >> what have you liked so far here at super bowl city? >> super bowl city? i love all the vendors, seeing the vendors. everyone is having a goo

but one of the biggest banners along the embarcadero near super bowl city may be coming down before the fans ever arrive. mark kelly has more on the battle over this big banner. >> reporter: if this was just a sign advertising super bowl 50, which of course is a civic pride event, it would be perfectly fine, perfectly legal. but it is more than that. at the top is a sign for verizon wireless. it reads, get a network that works. and if you ask san francisco city, this sign does not work. some might remember that back in 2002, san francisco voters passed something called prop g which says no new general advertising signs in the city and that was in hopes on cutting down on advertisements. in fact, the city attorney's office has gotten complaints so they told verizon and building managers this sign must be down by 5:00 thursday. >> we have the equivalent here in san francisco of 18 super bowls every year and if we make exceptions in the law for one event, we are really opening the door to saying that it's okay for everybody to do this for every convention or every major event that comes to
