speculation chairs, hustle me down the stairs and then we had a 60-mile drive over mostly gravel roads to bozeman in the airplane. i was not in the best shape mentally but i do remember one of them was my gps system. okay. in others railroad tracks. it will be a little bumpy. there not that far away. he away. he got me through the trip and i got to the mayo clinic they are of course, i was in the best as possible. i was then transferred to new york and was handed off to a brilliant's oncologist and a group of senior positions came in. what happens is that they want to be reassuring they said nine months from now there going to be back out. that was kind of uplifting for me and it was dead wrong it turns out. i went through a really difficult time. had four compression fractures in my spine that the dr. had missed. repaired it was something called type of plastic. those of you in the medical field no what that is. they put is. they put a needle and your spine and fill those fractures the cement. and that was tough enough but when i came out a set your remember when you used to be 6 feet and 511. s

it was coming down highway 12, just outside helena, montana, between my town of bozeman. i drive this all the time. it was during daylight hours. weather conditions were fine. and this fire truck veered into incoming traffic and the volunteer fire chief in the truck was killed in a very violent head-on collision. and there was a family of five mom and dad and three small children in the back in a pickup, that were also killed. so, when i drive back and forth -- in fact i went by that accident site just days after it happened. you could see the marks coming in -- the tire mashgsz in a straightaway where this horrible collision occurred. there are six white crosses standing by the highway where that occurred. this particular navistar front drive shaft has been recalled in approximately 500 vehicles with notifications being mailed this month. this accident occurred on june 19th of last year. so, the notifications went out just in the last ten days. a year after the accident. and it turns out this exact component was a nhtsa-approved solution to a previous recall that occurre

in fact, it occurred in my hometown of bozeman. i went to kindergarten through college in bozeman. because on may 29, 2013, u.s. army private first class wade christensen took his own life. he was 23 years old. private first class christensen served this country as a paratrooper in the 82nd airborne division and was deployed to afghanistan with his unit in 2009. during an ambush, he sustained severe injuries to his face, to his arms. after his return to montana wade struggled with both the physical and the mental healing process. wade's brother matt talked about how wade's mood would change when he wouldn't be able to take his medication when the v.a. failed to give him the meds on time. i wish i could stand here and tell you that wade christensen's story is unique. unfortunately, he's just one of the many veterans who committed suicide in my state that year. in fact, between 2004-2013 there were 566 suicides by montana veterans. in montana and across the nation, too many of our veterans struggle with ptsd, they struggle with depression. and veteran depression not only affects the
