the earnings were better at bp that wasn't dissipated.here are trading business, this is something people don't normally think about when a think of oil companies, but they trade oil in addition to refining it. pumping it did pretty well, as well. betty: compare what we have seen what bp, the declining or deteriorating situation at exxon, what do you read into that? more is clearly very much focused on the price of oil that perhaps even bp? there was one negative in bps earnings report today that analysts could point to, it was the company's gearing which is increasing. rightsomething like 23.5% now. it is not in a position where people get too concerned about it. all of these oil companies, the big fine, -- big five, and exxon included, have more or less the same business model. they are all integrated, they'll have refining arms, they'll have trading arms. they should get this natural hedge from the refining operations. maybe, we will see. we will get earnings tomorrow. we will get the rest over the next week. maybe we will see a little

bp posting results this morning.rofits did drop 80% but that topped expectations but now the company says it could cut capital spending further. they do expect crude oil prices to recover as producers stop work on fields and demand remains strong. echoing what we've heard from analysts which is that the supply and demand is finally coming into the rebalancing and that should stabilize the price of oil towards the end of the year. that stock is actually up nicely in early action in europe. >> and the refining and trading arm that compensated for losses in production. certainly given energy has already run up quite well, surprising to see a nice bump in the share price today on the face of headlines declines in earnings albeit beating estimates. dupont reported better than expected quarterly results. the chemicals and seed producer plans to merge with dow chemical but last month regulators needed more time to review the deal. >> and dupont was supposed to report this morning at 6:00 a.m. but inadvertently sent a partia

i think bp is about right sized rights now. the company can't get too much smaller and accomplish what it wants to strategically, especially when it comes to dealing with very large national oil companies. >> the price of oil, we've gone from around $60 a year ago to $30 per barrel now on both contracts. do you think we're going to see a turnaround at any point in the near term? are we heading higher once again? >> well, the market is currently oversupplied. i think it will remain oversupplied until late in the third quarter. i think that's when you set the stage for a fundamental price recovery. i do expect that to happen. we could see further tests to the downside in the near term because of the oversupply situation. but i think we've seen the lows in terms of oil price for this cycle. >> what do you make of oil and commodity currencies as well? i'm thinking in particular of the ruble, the canadian dollar seeing weakness on the back of the price of oil. >> you know, i think the question for the foreign exchange market more th
