or be careful, we have all gotten smart about checking the labels on our plastic containers, is it bpa-freeis it a newer container, glass is probably the best, the safest. what happens is if you grab an old butter or plastic butter container and stick it in there with reheating food, that's where you get confused about what's happening and then for certain vegetables, if you want to preserve all of the nutrients, you might want to do a quick steam just over the stove top with some hot boiling water instead of putting them in the microwave. not as convenient but you might hang onto a little bit more of the goodness. >> so is that for all vegetables, all vitamins? does it s.a.p. it out or just certain things and they mention broccoli for one, but for the most part not great for veggies? >> you know, it's hard to say. broccoli is the one that has been studied where they studied nutrient makeup of the broccoli, steaming it over the stove versus microwaving it and where they have seen a real change. other experts say when you boil vegetables then you're really bowling out all the goodness, you c

bpa's and they lates can indeed leach into food.u of nutrition. >> it's taking those proteins you want to eat and just breaking them apart, and dee naturalizing them. the active component of broccoli gets blasted apart if you microwave it. steam your broccoli. >>> so is it possible to safely microwave your food? harvard health says yes precautions. first, throw out all the old plastic containers in your cupboard. ditto any newer containers that are showing signs of aging. transfer food to a glass container before heating it in the microwave. don't let plastic wrap touch food while it's cooking. cover food instead with paper towels. don't make your food containers do double duty. that means no using empty margarine containers to store and heat other food. and don't microwave food in those quart and gallon size storage bags we all have. and you also need to remember this. if you use a frozen food tray they're designed to go in the microwave, those are meant to only be used one time so don't think that you can then clean it out and use
