. >>> joining me now is former fbi agent and abc news contributor brad garrett here in pittsburgh. , we've got a crime scene behind us. they're still investigating this. you took a look at the affidavit and with the details of what went on inside of there with that shooter. >> keep in mind since columbine police have changed their tactics. instead of waiting, you go right to the shooter. let's face it, these shootings take less than five minutes typically. that's exactly what the pittsburgh police did. they engaged the shooter that went into the third floor of the building. he now gets into a gun fight with police. several officers get shot. he gets shot. but they stop him. the key is because they went in when they did, it saved lives. >> we had snipers right in this house where we're set up in the front yard upstairs in case they couldn't get him inside. what do we know about this suspect? is there anything -- you've seen these kinds of things so many times. is there anything atypical about him? >> no, from the standpoint that they're obviously full of anger and rage. the important

it's an extraordinary case. >> robert boyce, brad garrett, thanks very much. michael. >> thank you, george. >>> now to that alleged school attack plot foiled juice in time. police say two girls were about to carry out a deadly assault stabbing students at their middle school before they were stopped. abc's victor oquendo is on the scene in bartow, florida, this morning. good morning, victor. >> reporter: good morning, michael. the details from police are chilling. these girls in just sixth and seventh grade allegedly told them they wanted to kill at least 15 of their classmates at this middle school and then commit suicide. this morning, police say two girls, just 11 and 12 years old, brought these knives and this pizza cutter to school and were just moments away from carrying out a plot to attack and kill their middle school classmates tuesday. >> how can this happen, you know? we're afraid and she's afraid. >> reporter: according to police, the girls were discovered together in a bathroom after first period allegedly planning to overpower and stab other stud

perimeter in that area, a lot of police prese t le bring in former fbi agent abc news contributor brad garrett. can you walk us through what police are doing right now? we know they are inside the synagogue. >> so it would appear, eva, you have one shooter in custody. but the problem is to actually clear the building, go in every room, every corner of the sfog. you can't say for sure it's a clear building until you clear it. did he bring someone with him? are there possible explosives? my guess is none of that's going to be the case but you can't take a chance. so that's why we probably are not hearing anything for a period of time. i will say this. they said there is three police officers shot. most synagogues have extra security and many times the police are the extra security. because of the obvious. and so they may have confronted this guy early on and sadly got shot. >> let's bring in former fbi special agent in charge and abc news contribute contributor steve gomez talking about the officers that were shot. and we're only hearing about multiple casualties, not a specific number. can you

. >>> let's bring in dan abrams and brad garrett. brad, let me begin with you. james comey saying the fbi can do this in a week, we can handle this, is he right? >> we can handle some of it in a week. the problem, george, is if you are going to look at somebody who has a drinking problem potentially, and you want to look at his character and you want to look at individuals that he actually associated with in high school and college, i think it's unrealistic you can do that in a week. >> it's not clear that they're looking at the drinking problem or whether he told the truth about it. >> right. the fundamental questi nows, what exactly are they investigating? are they investigating dr. ford's allegations and trying to assess, did that happen or not? >> that's easy. >> that's relatively easy, right? a limited number of witnesses, a limited number of questions. but are they investigating whether he lied in front of the senate? that's a separate question because then you get into all the various details about exactly what he said about his own drinking, about his ye
