brad woodhouse is communications director for the dnc, and he joins us. >> hi, l1j]z8é[martin. >> hase had to shift your focus as you prepared to fight the election? >> not really. part of our focus always, martin, has been to talk about the record straight when these people on the campaign trail are distorting what the president has done to turn the economy around. but look, i think most people would believe that mitt romney has the financial advantages, the organizational advantages. he has a bunch of washington lobbyists raising money for him. a bunch of politicians that have endorsed him. he's likely to be the nominee. but our number-one goal is articulating the president's record. >> you know the president has a super pac also and will be raising huge sums of money. the dnc has a new web video out today. the same day mitt romney is holding a fundraiser with some of his biggest donors. >> would you repeal dodd-frank? >> yeah. >> i don't think carpet is a pollutant. >> how can romney claim to be fighting for the middle class when his backers are some of washington's most notorious

joining us right now brad woodhouse for the dnc. thank you. >> thank you. >> he's spent a lot. have a lot to show for it, so far. eventually, he's going to have to go back to his big money backers. they ponied up a lot of money. he's got to say look what i've done. this morning he can't make that pitch. >> he can't. he's had a very tough time. even the primaries that he's won or the caucuses that he's won, he's seen his vote share go down from 2008. richard, he's failing to connect with the american people. you see that in the polls that show his approval rating is upside down. he's upside down with independent voters. conservative voters don't seem to trust him. if you say anything to get elected, it's hard for most people to trust you, even people in your own party. >> we know why the president reversed himself on super pac money. it was a disasterous january. in the month of january, we're talking about a number that's only about $59,000. this has the gop super pacs, they raised at least $2 million if you look at paul or gingrich and all the other candidates that raised so m

. >> brad woodhouse is the communications director for the dnc. brad, it's good to have you here as we talk about this. it's going to be a hot subject, certainly the right will be talking about this today as well. speak speaker boehner just saying in response on president obama's reversal of using super pacs as just another broken promise. how do you think the president is going to be able to explain away his now stance on supporting super pacs, encouraging donors to support his? >> let's be clear, thomas, the president hasn't changed his position on what he thinks about super pacs. he supports laws. he supports efforts, he disported the disclose act to try to ameliorate the decision so we wouldn't have this influx of special interest money. look, you have the koch brothers, karl rove, oil interest, insurance company interest, financial sector supporting mitt romney that have pledged to raise half a billion dollars to defeat president obama. we don't like the rules. we're not going to be able to change the rules if we don't re-elect the president.
