nbc 10's brandon hudson is live in northeast philadelphia to show us how. >> reporter: you see the huge hole at this bus stop here. there are so many service requests that the wait on the phone is two hours long. so the water department is opening up its twitter and facebook accounts. if you think you're seeing more city crews on water main breaks, you are. and they're working longer hours, at least 16 hour shifts to make up for the surge in breaks. check this out. the water department says it's had more water main breaks in the first two weeks of the year than all of last january. the problem stretches from north broad street to northeast philly. >> in about five separate spots there were water leaks coming out tof the cracks. >> reporter: he lived where a water main break covered the street in ice. the break impacted hid bed and breakfast. >> i wasn't able to make the turn to get into my driveway and neither were my guests. >> reporter: and chris briefly lost water inside his home today. in the past three weeks the number of water main breaks fixed have at least doubled compared to th

brandon hudson has the story. >> it was a tragedy just days before christmas. prosecutors say sifter was behind wheel december 10 when his car hit and killed williams. riding his bike. he was racing another car on route 13. he took off in his benz and drove the damaged vehicle to a garage. two days later he boarded a plane. >> it's not fair. it's not fair. they can fwo to another country. and not have to pay the price. >> williams neighbor last saw him a week before the death. >> he was a good neighbor. it's a shame what happened. they leave him lay there on the ground. >> reporter: investigators found the damaged mercedes at a home. sifter told a man who lives there he hit a deer. days after flying, prosecutors say he called the police and admitted his involvement in the crash. saying he has been racing at speeds exceeding 70 miles per hour. he left the scene because he was scared. >> it's an extradition issue. >> they're working with the prosecutors office and the feds to bring sifter back. the turkish born american citizen does have motivation to return. >>

nbc10 brandon hudson has her story. >> on a cold night in doil town. she goes for a drive. she's an uber driver. >> they call me the uber queen. >> reporter: tonight. she let us tag along. >> i'm open to requests. >> reporter: on nights when you taent feel your face or fingers. she goes the extra mile in between uber rides. she offers to give the homeless rides to shelters or motel. >> i will go and search for the people. >> reporter: she does it free of charge. >> i feel like i have extra compassion. and you wouldn't believe the amount of homeless people there will. >> reporter: between january 2015 and 2016 homelessness in bucks county rose 9%. the housing group says the average age of a homeless person is nine years old. >> it's very cold. you can imagine what it's like for someone who has no roof over their head. >> it started when she was giving away her uber tips to homeless. she realized she could do more. she used a car to drive them around. >> it's a great out let. >> reporter: since last year. she's helped countless people and formed frnd ships. she shared photogr

brandon hudson shows us how this mummer is hoping for a miracle. >> i got my own special chili that i make. >> he loves cooking. he showed us what he whipped up in the kitchen for new years. food is his passion. so are the mummers. he loves the parade. >> it's something i look forward to every day. >> reporter: this year he made a statement. with his sign asking for a kidney. >> my son held the sign. loud and proud. we told hem you'll help dad with that sign. >> reporter: that's him with his son and nephew. holding signs in the parade. >> people were high fiving me. >> reporter: he was diagnosed in 2010. a rare disease which can cause heart disease and high bachelorblood pressure. he does dialysis at home four times a week. he's looking for a live donor. >> i'm type o. o positive. so i can give to almost anybody but can't receive anybody. >> reporter: he was afraid to share his story. he changed his mind because he wants to be around for his children. >> my kids are everything to me. my family is everything. >> reporter: he says you only need one kidney. is motto is share your spare.

nbc 10 brandon hudson is out for us live. investigators say this all started because of some spilled serial? >> reporter: that's right, jim. the district attorney says the couple beat the 4-year-old child for several hours after he spilled his spilled milk and serial, and also the other children were in the home while this beating happened. on this block of lukens avenue which neighbors say is quiet and tight night lives the couple who neighbors say beat a 4-year-old to death. >> we very rarely saw these people. >> reporter: steven lisles lives across the street from the couples home. >> as soon as we heard it, went and grabbed our kids and gave our kids a hug. i can't imagine ever doing anything like this to my child. >> reporter: she first told police her child lost conscious during a trip to the mall yesterday. but investigators noticed a footprint on the child's backside. in an interview she said she and her boyfriend beat the child repeatedly for spilling his serial. a neighbor said it was strange seeing police car outsi

nbc10's brandon hudson has been looking into this problem, he joins us now live in kensington.is all haso with the weather. >> reporter: that's right, erin, when snow and ice make it too dangerous for the sanitation on, you see piles of trash like this form all over the neighborhood. neighbors say sights like thisr rainshower, but they're also an eyesore. this isn't what some neighbors near 5th and jefferson want to see on their block. >> around this neighborhood, everything is going up. >> reporter: a pile of trash which wasn't picked up on its scheduled day. add in the city holiday at lea waiting. across the street is more trash, which neighbors told nbc10, also was not picked up on time. one father told us it doesn't look good sitting close to the children, and down the street from a school. >> make the community look good. >> the streets department issued an apology on its facebook page about the delayed trash and city pickup citywide. it said the winter weather and holiday schedule are to blame. sanitation crews are expected to pick up trash in this part of kensington. >>
