crude, the real action when it comes to bullishness came right away in light sweet crude and brent, brent higher by $1.46. a 1.5% gain. gold, because gold tends to be that place of safe haven basic, not so today. look at the drop, it did try to make a comeback, down a full $10.20. gold not behaving as gold buffs would like to see it move to the upside. did not do it, at $1,305.70 a troy ounce. the volatility index, the one week picture, the fear index spiked 15%, so the fear comes in, but perspective as we always like it here on "countdown to the closing bell," well below the highs of february. the vix had fallen for five straight days. longest down streak in 3 1/2 months before what happened today. timing, european markets were about to close when they were hit by the ukrainian news, finished above session lows but the cac-quarante lower by 3.5%. russia's index has closed before we got word of the clash and here we are on a friday. we have to wait until sunday night to see what happens. the market russia exchange traded fund and other have a mixed picture here. we have the market vectors
