brevard county, hurricane-force w winds, if you haven't experienced them, you will. and storm surges, seven to 11 feet, and rainfall, a lot of those quiet concerns, five to ten inches in a short period of time could lead to flash flooding very easily and then we see the rain threat continue a along the entire coastline of florida, georgia, and south carolina going forward. as we go into late friday evening, timing this out for you, still hurricane-force winds expected, daytona beach, palm coast, st. augustine, and to ni 11 feet locally, possibly catastrophic for some of those barrier islands, and inlands where we'll be monitoring very closely. where is it going from here? the storm is expected to maintain its category three status through at least friday evening and then we start to see the northeasterly turn and a dive southward into the atlantic. there are a lot of strange weather dynamics that are taking place across the atlantic ocean. we'll get into details later but the main impact's going forward, in the near term, heavy winds, damaging winds, maybe a tornadoe

brevard county. we do have fire crews that have responded to those but for the most part we have emergency c w crews off the road because it is far too dangerous for them. we have such dangerous conditions with a category 4 hurricane that means our people cannot be out in those dangerous conditions. for the most part, the folks from brevard county fire rescue and that includes firefighters and paramedics, for the most part, they are off the road in limited circumstances at risk to themselves, some crews are going out when able. we have to report we have some 35,000 people without power now across this county and that number is rising as the eye of the storm is just off the -- near the central part of the county, but a little bit more towards the south. it's traveling only 14 miles an hour northwest, a 72 mile county, very slow going and a lot longer to go for us. >> you have that northwest quadrant of the eye wall 50 miles off cape canaveral. that's where all that energy is in that storm, so much of

we hope that everyone is away from the barrier islands here in brevard county.they are not, they've got storm surge that could go as high as 15 feet. the tide is set to be high right now. it's supposed to start right around midnight. so if that storm surge comes into those barrier islands in the atlantic beach, melbourne beach, paradise beach, they might see 15 feet rollover and just flood out parts of the city. so where we are, we probably won't see that much flooding, but we, of course, will see the storm. we are going to see the wind. we are going to see much more rain. and even just in the last 20 minutes from where i'm standing, we've had transformers blow. we were just doing a live shot for wesh, and it blew right over my right shoulder. we've seen others, the high school which is a primary spot as a shelter for the eoc, and for the fire department and police officers and sheriffs deputies, it's right next door. they lost power for a while. they now just have emergency lights. so this thing, as you mentioned, is rapidly deteriorating right now and it's onl

brevard county. volusia county. daytona beach. that whole area as it continues to move to the north. our winds will shift. as they do, we will have to bring in drier air to chase in some of the high humidity for a short period of time. we hope that will be a long term trend, but we have to see how the trend plays out for around. warm, muggy for us. that is tomorrow morning. later in the day. we start to see banding coming off the northwest side of this system and enhanced somewhat as i mentioned with the heating of the day that can create energy. and there is the precipitation. most of it to our east. folks inland. watch for higher wind gusts. that is our big concern for the tampa bay area. especially those inland counties. rain chance 30% for thursday. 40% for high temperatures in the mid to upper 80s . overnight lows will take a bit of a dip and we will continue to see how the tropical system will play out as i mentioned beyond 5, 6, and 7-day period. but let's focus on the next 48 hours and its effects on the tampa bay area. es

a hurricane watch in brevard county, indian river county. points south all the way down to the upper keys. for us though, there are no watches in place. warnings, anything like that. quite a few of those watches, the path of hurricane matthew. you can see that position friday at 2:00 p.m. part of friday, depending on the timing, the movement, and the track, these can change and likely will. these forecasted positions at the moment, we are certainly in the cone in some of these areas if the storm would wander west a little bit more. the effects would be greater but at this point, we would be on the weaker side of the storm, so largely just stronger wind gusts. especially inland areas. we would have to be concerned with. the trend with the computer models has drifted back to the west. many are still well offshore at this point. so we will have to continue to especially for the state of florida. but very clearly defined between cuba and haiti at this point as it is moving off to the north. as we look at a computer model wind gust forecast map,

we are 64 miles from brevard county in zero livolushia count. the hotels have told people they can't stay and must evacuate from the coastline. we have been talking to the police chief who's been clear with everyone that at some point, just like what is happening in brevard county where they are saying they are no longer going to respond to emergency calls because it's too dangerous. that same thing will happen here, even though every person on the force is activated and is working today. they are saying, look, there's going to come a point where we are not going to be able to be save you if you did not heed that warning, you are on your own. at this point it is too late to "evacuate" and get out of the storm. there are a few shelters still open, three or four but they have very few beds now. even that is starting to get full. so people need to realize at this point it is time for hunker down and try to get out of the area where the storm surge is going to be coming. we have seen the storm surge come up already. most of the beach is covered in w

and that is supposed to happen here in brevard county. and sometime between 2:00 and 5:00, that is where everybody are warning the worst impact. on the roadways, with promising news, we saw a small convoy of troops heading southbound on u.s. 1. there is a lot of repositioning in the state. the governor mentioned that as well. said the state has an eight day supply of fuel, the cars and trucks just in case the ports are battered and tattered and getting into the state there is a lot of gas stations when we're in jupiter. so good news is that everybody should not be needing gasoline. they're supposed to be hunkering down. in jupiter, that is martin county. the sheriff's department there reported 70 miles per hour winds and ordered deputies to get to preordained staged zones because it is too unsafe to be driving on the road. if you get if trouble, you're stuck riding it out and help is not coming to you for several hours. it's going to get worse and worse as the next 5, 6 hours come on. and the storm hugs the shore line as forecasted and ex

brevard county deputies are searching for a pair of armed burglars. he rummaged through things... just inches from where the homeowners and children were sleeping. another man waited at the door with a gun... collecting items that were passed to him. the two stole a 38-caliber special revolver... credit cards... and a cellphone. a wedding day is supposed to be all about the happy couple.. but this pair of "wedding crashers" may have ruined that in dunedin.. the men intruded on a private wedding party.. deputies say they were dr they were asked to leave..they got into it with guests.. both men were eventually arrested... it was definitely a wedding reception that couple will remember. deputies say the drunken men bickered with guests... threatened the bride... and even caused a ruckus at the groom's business nearby.. patrick mcallister and david willard didn't know anyone at the wedding... and deputies say they were very drunk. members of the wedding party spotted the pair... and confronted them. but the 2 men refused to eventually... police say mcallister and willard left... then

and below brevard.revard you're talking about recovery. can you talk about the time frame restoring power to the southern part of the state? >> well, we-- i'll be talking to utilities today and we have a report that we'll talk about how many homes are without power so we know that fpnl has restored, i think it's over 150 homes already. 150,000 homes already. so, we-- we have a report of how many homes are without power, and then we'll be talking to them. what you need. is there anything the state can help you with. and then, as my goal is as any utilities finishes up their restoration, then we use those assets to help any other utility in the state. so, i know that florida power and light has brought in over 10,000 people and duke has brought in people and the municipalities and co-ops, my name is to share resources and find out where their problems are and get everybody there. just like we did with hermine, if we help through the army corps of engineers, if we can get the debris, we'll do that. >> can

if your in brevard county or north you still have time to leave. get out. there is no reason to take a chance. it just doesn't make any sense. at 5:00 p.m. hurricane matthew was located 100 miles east/southeast of 3swest palm beach. maximum sustained winds of 140 miles per hour. remains a account four. matthew is likely to produce devastating impacts from storm surge, extreme winds, and heavy rains along portions of the east coast tonight. this storm is a monster. again, protecting life is onumbr one priority. rain up to 12 inches long the east coast. and remember, you will get a wand and bet more. and when you get the band you will get immediate flooding. strong rip current, beach erosion. the risk of tornados. turn forced winds. hurricane-forced winds. remember that. hurricane-forced winds. storm surge. think about this. 11 feet possible of storm surge. standing on the ground. 11 feet. stop and think about that. 11 feet of storm surge. and on top of that, waves. so in your house, if you are close, you could have the storm surge and waves over your roof. >
