"eyewitness news" reporter nicole brewer joins us on the scene with the details, nicole, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, ukee and erika. it took fire fighters about 20 minutes or so to get this fire under control unfortunately it was just too late for an elderly woman living inside. you can see still an active scene here. fire officials say they arrived here to the fire scene on providence road shortly before 3:00 o'clock. in addition to finding heavy smoke, some fire in the front of the home crews also found that woman deceased in the front porch area. now in continuing their search they found heavy smoke also on the second and third floor and damage to that rooftop you see there. fortunately we're told no one else was found inside that home so we are looking at one fire fatality. now deputy chief michael spoke to us earlier this morning and tells thaws freezing temperatures made for a difficult job for these volunteer fire fighters as water was freezing just ad soon as it hit the ground. >> we have encountered a lot of ice, and crews are walking briskly on the ice. we were

"eyewitness news" reporter nicole brewer joins us at the scene to tell us more. nicole? >> reporter: ukee, erika happened about 75 feet from the entrance to the 24 hour wal-mart here to my left, not far from the philadelphia mills, otherwise known as the franklin mills mall. but, yes, you can imagine the concern that police officers had given the fact that customers and employees were so close by. in northeast philadelphia, the parking lot after 24-hour wal-mart becomes the scene of an early morning shooting. >> this wal-mart was open for business. there were cars in the parking lot, not many, but there were customer cars in the parking lot, there were several customers in the wal-mart, there was about 20 employees in the wal-mart. so we're very fortunate that there was no one else injured and in one was struck by stray gunfire. >> shots fired possibly over monday that i was owed to the victims. but, instead of collecting that debt, police say the 26 year old man was shot in the chest, the arm and the leg. all while he sat in the passenger seat of a car. >> the shooting

"eyewitness news" reporter nicole brewer is at the scene in northeast philly for you right now. nicole? >> ukee, erika there is shooting was particularly of concern to police, because it happened here, in the parking lot of a 24 hour wal-mart store, not far from philadelphia mills, the shopping center, you see behind me. so you can imagine, just how concerned they were to hear that the shots rang out with customers, also employees, so close by, but we go ahead show you video of the crime scene from overnight again about 75 feet from the entrance of this wal-mart store. now, that's where the victim, 26 year old male, told officials he was meeting up with somebody to settle a debt when the person actually opened fire, shooting him in the chest the arm and the leg, while he sat in the passenger side after car. now, his brother who was driving that vehicle fled the the scene taking him to holy redeemer hospital. he was then transport today temple hospital where he is now in guarded condition. police say the incident, which was, in fact, caught on surveillance video corks have been m

"eyewitness news" reporter jan carabeo live on campus where classmates are dealing with their lost. jan? >> reporter: nicole, ukee, police continue to investigate this deadly fall today. but at this point they do not suspect foul play. instead, police believe this 18 year old temple university student may have been sitting on the window's ledge taking a picture before she fell to her death. take a look at the video. this all unfolded yesterday in a very busy area near 16th and chestnut streets. police say just before 6:00 thursday when this temple university student fell to her death. they say she was visit too long friends inside an art institute of philadelphia dorm room. both of those students are being questioned by police. vaux a lot of witness who is were on the grounds when this 18 year old fell, she actually fell on top after 44 year old woman who was walking on 16th street. police say that woman suffere

. >> "eyewitness news" reporter nicole brewer picks up the store friday that scene nicole. >>> ukee and erika if you take a look behind me you can see crews are not here on the scene of this fire on providence road in yeadon, delaware county. they have just cleared the scene. the restoration people are here on site but you cane what is left of this fire that took about 20 minutes to get under control. unfortunately there was one fire fatality an elder liz woman did not manage to get out of that home. she was found deceased in the front porch area of that home. fortunately three other elderly relatives inside at the time of the fire did make it out okay. we're told there were working smoke alarms so that alerted them to this fire. it was just too late for that one elderly woman. we did speak to the deputy fire chief when we first arrived here on the scene. he said freezing temperatures made for a difficult scene here for fire fighters with slippery conditions, and threat of freezing lines. >> we encountered a lot of ice and crews are walking gingerly, as you can see, on the ice. we were

"eyewitness news" reporter nicole brewer joins us at that scene in ogontz with the very latest information, nicole good morning. >> reporter: good morning to both of you yeah, just a sad scene here in the ogontz section of the city where a row home fifer has claimed the life of a military veteran with disabilities. it all happened here behind me in the 1800 block of roselyn street, ogontz section of the city. we're told fire started in the rear of that home and extended through much of the first floor despite having working smoke alarms. when fire fighters arrived they found a man in his 70's who appears to have been disabled. he was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. that marks first and hopefully last fire fatality of the year. he was alone at the time of the fire but three family members have been displaced, a apparently they lived with him inside that home. at this point investigators have not released the official cause but say victim may have been cooking at the time. >> right now it appears that the origin is first floor kitchen area. we don't necessity for sure, we
