rikki mitchell is outside the building in brewers hill -- with more information. this building is known as the milwaukee fortress and was built in 1892 as the f. mayer boot and shoe company. right now it's about 50 percent occupied by commercial space -- but at one point the city says dozens of people were living here illegally. the city caught wind of this during an annual inspection -- when it found about 50 people which is illegal.within a month -- those people moved out.according to the city -- inspectors found fire hazards and blocked some of the exits blocked you into the center of the building so that was a big concern we had to have adequate means of egress for people to get out of the building you'd have fire escapes that take you to the center of the courtyard which would basically not get you to a public right of way 3:48 right now -- that questionable as storage. but in the spring -- a developer will be taking over and renovating the entire building.we'll have more on what's next coming up tonight at 6.reporting live in brewers hill rm today's tmj4. fo
