weather channel meteorologist brian norcross is with us tonight, and, brian, all those eyes are on the blue lines, the projection maps doesn't make the folks in the carolinas very happy. >> not the carolinas and not points north, brian. it's an 80-mile-per-hour category 1 hurricane now but it's forecast to get much stronger and head toward the eastern u.s. takes a look at the track map, we'll show you where it is right now. that's just north of the dominican republic here, it's forecast by tomorrow to move by and intensify into a category 2 hurricane and then as you said, head into the bahamas. then as you say, headed into the bahamas this could be a very significant hurricane event, a catastrophic event, potentially in the bahamas with a major hurricane through there, not ruling out the effects in florida, but it looks like a side effect not a direct hit in florida. the carolinas are right in the path at this point, too soon to tell exactly where. and that's on saturday as a significant hurricane coming ashore likely there on the southeast coast. and then after that, into the northeas

brian? >> tom costello in washington, d.c. tonight. with us now, weather channel's brian norcross. a veteran hurricane specialist, very mindful of how much of a history maker this storm could be. brian, 1944 had a storm on the jersey shore, cut long beach island in two pieces. it rearranged the map. is that what we're talking about potentially here? >> it's very possible. 1944, a great atlantic hurricane was actually well offshore and this hurricane is forecast to be closer to the jersey shore. we have been looking at that 1944 hurricane, we have also been looking at an 1821 hurricane which also ran right along the jersey shore and into new york city and caused tremendous flooding all around the fledgling city at that time. >> is there any good model of the spaghetti noodle graphics, the hurricane projections you can cling on to for folks who need a little bit hope? is there anything that's going to come along and steer this thing out, perhaps something coming across the country? >> we don't think that a significant probably hurricane of a lifetime event can be avoided, brian. but

let's head over to brian. >> brian: since the 9-11 attacks, the u.s.conomic and security-related assistance. after osama bin laden's hiding place was revealed north of the country's capital, many began to wonder if pakistan government officials knew about his whereabouts or some did. now the white house is putting pressure on pakistan to up their counterterrorism efforts by putting bills on the line. how is that going? is this an effective strategy. joining us to tell us if we have an ally or not in pakistan, former u.n. ambassador, john bolton. are we playing this correct? >> i think it's very important to put as much pressure on pakistan as we can to help us? the war against taliban and al-qaeda and to try and bring them as much to our side as we can. it's a judgment call. we want to press them right to the edge of the envelope without punching through it. and the circumstance we see now with this helicopter that they've shown to the chinese is a good example of that. it was outrageous for them to do that. but entirely predictable. what we need to do

brian, good morning. >> reporter: hi, lynn. yesterday while the president was wrapping up the bus tour, we got details about the economic recovery plan he's unveiling in september. the president wants to create jobs through building up infrastructure and he wants to offer long-term help for the unemployed. he also wants to extend tax cuts, but the boldest move of all, he wants to cut $4 trillion in spending. that's far more than than the $1.5 trillion the congressional committee is shooting for. the president also wants taxes for the rich. meanwhile, gop presidential candidate rick perry is out on the campaign trail today. he's toned down his rhetoric, but he's also raised some eyebrows in saying that he doesn't believe in manmade global warming. >> i do believe that the issue of global warming has been politicized. i think there are a substantial number of scientists who have manipulated data so that they would have dollars rolling in to their projects. >> as the president heads out to martha's vineyard today, there are alread
