brian flores is live to tell us why this type of class is so important for this community. good afternoon, brian. >> reporter: hi, tori. benicia is considered a waterfront community but before they had to rely on outside agencies just like the coast guard if there was ever a water rescue but after training today, they won't have to do that anymore. about ten firefighters from benicia and american canyon combined for this training. there were three different stations that the firefighters had to go through. it included going through an obstacle course on the boat, also being able to place channel markers in the water, dropping rescuers in the water and rescuing swimmers. the firefighters went through basic training last summer and will complete the advanced portion today. but the most important thing is that benicia firefighters can initiate their own rescue instead of calling for outside help. >> we've had a program in the past. we didn't maintain it to keep it up and we are being proactive and getting our folks trained now. >> reporter: fire officials say there are about 12

ktvu's brian flores joins us live to explain what's going on today. od afternoon, brian. >> reporter: good afternoon, tori. well, it's much quieter than yesterday. you will recall from yesterday that 44 people were involved in a sit-in during the giants' game from yesterday. ten people were arrested. again, nothing like that, but the union representatives say the same message needs to be heard today. these are not concession workers here. some are members of unite here local 2. there are fans who support the efforts of the concession workers. about 300 people pictured outside of the -- picketed outside of the park. about ten people were arrested later released for not following the fan code of conduct and not leaving when authorities told them to. but the day after the message is the same from the union. they want a raise which they say has not happened since about 2009. they are looking for job security protection and fair health coverage. >> we need job security. we need to keep our health insurance for these workers and we need a wage increase. gas

ktvu's brian flores is in oakland to tell us more about whether these incidents may be connected. >>reporter: good morning dave. officials have not come out and said that both of these incidents are related but at the very least it's suspicious that one home was targeted with graffiti yesterday afternoon and early this morning a small fire broke out damaging parts of the home as well. this home is on the 1400 block of 73rd avenue. we are not showing a lot of graffiti on the house that was talked yesterday afternoon. but it includes a homophobic slur and the phrase stop snitching. police investigators are on that case. fire investigators are also on the case because at 12:45 this morning at the same home a small fire broke out. firefighters tell ktvu it appears that it started from the outside and damaged a portion of the back porch. what is adding more to the suspicious nature is the fact nobody was home at the time which if they were it might suggest it might have been an accident. we understand a spray can't can was found in bushes nearby. crews had to board up the doors because it
