brian hickey is live inned soa springs. how is it looking out there?> reporter: well, not as good as we want it to but we'll take what we can get. take a look on the ground where we've got i'm going to call it about three inches of snow. good news it's a heavy wet snow so high in water content and it's going to pack down nicely to help cover up what is essentially dirt up there in the ski resorts in the sierra. bad for the resorts up to now but the the good news is looking ahead to tonight into saturday we could be measuring snow in feet from the next wave of weather heading our way. this is interstate 80 behind me. they did have chains all the way down to nyak. now around 3:30 lifted those so i-80 and highway 50 are both open with no chain controls at this hour, i got to tell you it's warmed up here. still cold by most standards but barely hanging on to snow. so we're around that snow/rain mix. even here at 7,000 feet. the next system coming in is going to start warm, then get cold and drop the snow line down, that's when we expect to see significant
