[inaudible] >> reporter: i know you like the -- let's talk about this. we're pat 5300 feet. we've seen sustained winds of 23 miles an hour. gusting to 43 and that all equals a balmy windchill of 9 degrees. even under clear sunny skies. lit me show you over here. most of it went that way somewhere. up over the summit we're looking at 5, 6 inches. hopefully the wind didn't strip the snow. expect controls at -- at nyad. >> reno just came in with totals. homewood, 8. alpine was there -- there was some results of about 12. so there's pretty good powder up there? >> reporter: yeah, it's this eefd wind i worry about. >>> 7:42. breaking news. we've just received confirmation from caltrans that this weekend's bay bridge closure is a go. there was some concern we heard earlier from claudine wong about possible rain and whether that might impact their work. we've just confirmed from bart nay that it's a go. the bay bridge will shut down on friday and then reopen tuesday.

heavy snow up in the sierra nevada and brian hickey is up there at donner summit. right? >> reporter: yeah, i would say we'll probably see 12, 16 inches snow out of this per inch of rain. it's very cold up here on the summit. you can see all of the traffic coming over 80. caltrans and chp worked very well to keep the road open. but despite these treacherous conditions, have seen a of stranded motorists, spin jows, a couple of minor crashes but so far, nothing too serious that's shut the roadway down which is simply amazing considering how long it's been up here. you can see up -- off in the trees. >> the snow trying to accumulate, but the wind, the constant wind is just blowing -- i don't know where the snow is going. but it has to be drifting somewhere. look at that. once you get into it, it's like dust. >> that's sam pain powd -- champagne powder. >> reporter: that's champagne powder. if you are waiting for your powder day, i think that's tomorrow or probably friday. that will be the day that you might want to take a day off work. i don't know how you do it, but
