joining us to discuss this cryptocurrency volatility is brian kelly.d morning >> thanks for having me. i need to ask about this story in the times worries grow that the price of bitcoin is being propped up, artificially propped up. a number of people are looking at an exchange called bit finnex, and this idea that there are somehow people, hackers or the like who are using a currency called tether, which is tethered to the dollar and they're -- but it's not tethered to the dollar, and it's being used legitimately potentially to prop up the price of bitcoin and maybe when bitcoin was at its height in the same way we talk about fake followers on twitter, are we talking about fake something else >> yeah. listen, tether is a big part of this ecosystem the real use case for tether is for global arbitrage so you'll see when bitcoin falls quite a bit, falls 10%, 20% in a day, you'll see the exchanges, the prices get disconnected. then what will happen is people use tether to buy bitcoin at a lower price and on exchange like bit finnex, and then they bring it

kelly, somewhat have a looming confrontation. the snarky way to ask this, is this a white house with an insatiable appetite for distraction and infighting? >> well, brian, it has proven to be just that for the first 13 months of this presidency, and there have been tensions at various moments over the last several months between jared kushner and the chief of staff john kelly. in part because kelly has tried to control and tightly manage the access to the president and sort of who is involved in what decisions and who gets that sort of free-flowing access in the west wing, which jared kushner used to enjoy before kelly became chief of staff. and this security clearance issue is certainly putting a real spotlight on jared kushner's situation. he does not have a permanent security clearance. there have been a number of questions raised through that process, including over his -- the things that he left off of his forms earlier when he first came into the white house. so it's been a problem for him. it's not really hit a head until this rob porter scandal, the staff secretary who was forced out over domestic abuse allegations, and it's created a conflict
