brian mooar is live in washington to tell us what this plan means for servicemen and women. orning, brian. >> hi, jon. we have the big picture, but today president obama fills in the fine brush strokes how he plans to cut about $450 billion in pentagon budget. we know that the idea is that they want to focus on strategy, that that is the first priority here, that the reductions will be driven by that. they won't just be across the board, everybody taking a hit. but the pentagon wants to turn itself into a 21st century fighting machine. no longer able to fight two sustained ground wars like iraq and afghanistan, but certainly able to respond, and responds quickly to threats ranging from iran to smaller scale terror threats. the pentagon says that it is going to be looking toward these future threats and retooling the fighting force from the machinery on down to the boats on the ground to deal with those modern threats. but there is another sort of threat right here on capitol hill. if congress cannot come to terms on the broader budget cuts that it's been rang ling with for th

brian mooar is live in washington with a look at what the candidates are going to do now. good morning. >> good morning. effective or not the romney camp called the attacks on mitt romney and his business record desperate. mitt romney was in the cross-fire and between newt gingrich and rick perry who were each trying to attack his business credentials, but it was clear to the republican establishment that it wasn't helping the opponent, it certainly wasn't helping romney who looks like he's on track to become the nominee. so they asked them to dial them back. each candidate, perry, gingrich, unrepentant, not apologizing for what they did, but now they have to look forward another winning message. that with eight days before the south carolina primary. mitt romney hearsay his own set of problems, trying to convince conservatives in that very conservative state he is in fact conservative enough. jon huntsman still hunting for votes. ron paul the wild card is unclear what he could do at this point. and then there's rick santorum who failed to capitalize on his big second plac

"today in the bay's" brian mooar is live with a look at what the candidates are doing now. >> good morning. well, it has been a really good and really bad week for mitt romney. he ran through this gauntlet of the other candidates specifically newt gingrich and rick perry, attacking his business record. his campaign has put out a response ad calling those attacks desperate. they weren't effective in raising the other candidates up. and in fact, they alienated the candidates from a lot of the republican leadership who asked them to tone these attacks down. and while gingrich and perry are not apologizing, they are doing exactly what they have been asked to do. the problem now is all of these candidates have to look for a way to come up with some sort of winning message that drowns out romney's at this point. but there's a problem that romney has. he is trying still to connect with those conservative voters especially the evangelical social conservatives and convince them that he is conservative enough. mitt romney has iowa and new hampshire under his belt. he isn't in a posit
