let's discuss the new reporting with brian stelter and david who broke the news about the suit now facingdavid you broke the news, what is the report from inside fox of what's being done? i mean look. there are rules of journalism. when something's wrong you retract it, apologize, acknowledge and often fire people. what has fox done? >> fox has done apparently very little if any of that. after the story imploded on them in a public way, rod wheeler, the private investigator at the heart of this in whose mouth it appears to be fabricated by the reporter for fox news who worked on this. he went to jay wallace and the chief lawyer for fox. diane brandy who's been there through the storms. he said look, words were put in my mouth. things were attributed to me in the story and when things went south things were attributing to me explaining to the rich family, the -- they retracted the story. blamed him once more for doing it even though it appears from all the evidence he provides in the lawsuit that they acknowledge these quotes were manufactured. they listened to what he had to say and as of

we have cnn senior media correspondent host of "reliable sources" brian stelter and cnn media analystill carter. so bill, you're out there in los angeles, what do you make of the tweeting? do you like it it? help him or hurt him? >> personally think it's great in a sense we get unfiltered view of his point of view on all these topics. i think it's interesting, yesterday it was raining at the golf course and so he had time on his hands and -- well when he has time on his hands he does two things. he watches tv and he tweets. and really if you think about it, he probably could be getting information on other topics, learning more about north korea, he could be learning about climate change for example, but he's more interested in topics that are about him and so he's watching news, he reacts to that, and he comes across in a very personal way in attacking blumenthal which we get a view of what he's really like there. he reacts when someone tweets him. he hases to come back at them, and we know what that means, and maybe that means something in the future when an international leader com

going to comment on that, but -- and i think that you are hearing it from various corners, i know brian stelter something about this last night. i don't think that's what corker was saying, i think what people are concerned about is just that you are seeing the president -- you know, is known to like drama and excitement and sees things as a show. this was a person that spent 14 seasons on the apprentice. i think that he has invested a fair amount of time in keeping the show going and less on doing the job. i think that is what bob corker was talking about. whatever the reason is i do think that it has a wearying effect on people wanting to get something done. you have republicans concerned they are squandering a once in the lifetime opportunity here. >> the president does not compartmentalize his feelings about things, he tweets them instantly. he clearly allows it to affect all aspects of the job. and the presidency is a really big job and one that requires people to put aside certain things and deal with the task at hand. what republicans like corker are trying to say is focus on the job. >>

i want to bring in our senior media correspondent brian stelter.d the see you. >> good to see you. >> what do we know? we know fox news retracted the story, but what else has happened? usually in a situation like this, if it really isn't true, if anything in this lawsuit is true, you would see a all right of action by a news organization. what are we seeing here? >> that's right. this was in mid may. since then not a lot of action from fox, at least no publicly. no suspensions or disciplinary action against anyone we know of involved in the story. however, we do know fox has retained outside counsel, they brought in outside lawyers to handle the case from rod wheeler. we know rod wheeler's attorneys are looking forward to the discovery process. they would like to depose people, like for example sean spicer who was white house press secretary in april when spicer had a meeting with wheeler and this gop doaner at the white house where they talked about this, this theory that has hurt the slain dnc staffer's family so much. because we know there was a
