"fire and fury" the book not a distant memory from the white house but buzz and speculation are coming fast just two weeks shy of one year of the trump presidency. the president, several of his top aides and officials spent much of the weekend defending his sanity and defending himself against the claims made in this book. let's get to the breaking news, brian stelter is here with us. brian, this is your reporting on what 2020 could look like. >> for the past few hours since that speech last night i've been calling, reaching out to some of oprah winfrey's close friends, business associates, counterparts trying to found out how real this is. the #oprah2020 trending on twitter, chatter her speech at the golden globes sounded presidential. according to two of her close friends she is actively thinking about running for president in 2020. that doesn't mean she's made up her mind. i'm told she has not made up her mind. white seem premature to make any decisi decision given we haven't seen

brian stelter said, which i didn't realize, oprah will be out promoting a movie at some point. if she's out promoting a movie she will get asked this again and again and again. >> right. this actually reminds me of the hillary strategy of running in 2008. she had a book coming out so she was on the road, promoting the book and hearing from people encouraging her to run. she was in a listening phase. it's eerily similar to what oprah is doing in terms of in her listening phase. look, i don't know if she's going to run. i could definitely get behind a, you know, oprah winfrey as the first woman president of the united states. i think the standard rule for politics just don't apply anymore and part of the reason that trump won in 2016 is because he was able to really, you know, tap into that anger that was in the country at the time that a lot of other candidates didn't realize and i think oprah could really sort of tap into the hunger in america right now for inspiration and hope and i think, you know, i think she could be very formidable. >> patti is right. let me just make one

joining me amy parns and cnn's brian stelter and karoon demusion. wolff's credibility is in question after many journalists criticized his reporting style over the years and then some readers are finding some errors in the book from spelling mistakes. i even noticed a couple words that were missing and had to fill in the blanks, you know, to title mix-ups, even named appearances by people would say it wasn't them that was present. so how does this potentially impact the credibility of not just the author but even the book altogether? >> the book does suffer from sloppiness. there are some minor errors and you could say there's some major erors, you know, when you say that wilbur ross was nominated for the wrong department, those are fact checking mistakes that should have been caught ahead of time. that said, the errors that have been found, although they weaken wolff's argument, they do not weaken the overarching point of the book, which is -- >> why is that? >> -- that the president is not fit for office. >> and why is that? because people are mak

the for more on what oprah is thinking here's cnn's correspondent brian stelter. >> reporter: she as no official comment. she's pretty much the only one staying silent. even the trump white house responded to the idea and said they would welcome the challenge from winfrey or anyone else. it's been a really interesting 24 hours to see all the reactions to winfrey's golden globes speech. it's almost as if her speech, which almost sounded like a campaign speech was a trial balloon of sorts. here's what we know for sure. i've been told by two of her close friends and some of her friends are urging her to run for president, that they want her to take on trump in 2020. according to these two friends, shoe he is actively thinking about the idea. she hasn't decided she will run, nor has she ruled it out. she is definitely taking the pocket seriously, partly, i'm told because she's horrified by some of trump's actions by president. she also finds that energizing, motivating. in that way, she's a bit like the other women choosing to run for office. we've seen the stories about a record number
