kpix 5's brian webb joins us again from oakland... brian... >>> a bart strike tomorrow. there is no deal between b.a.r.t and its unions. we go again from oakland, brian? >> reporter: ann, at this point, everyone has gone home here after a long 12 hour-plus day. both sides left without that deal. there will be no strike tomorrow, as you said, the unions have given another 24 hours. we learned today that b.a.r.t officials gave the best final offer. they say it was $7 million more than on friday. it put the brakes on talks today. it seems to have stunned the union and politicians who thought things were moving forward. the politicians say they urged them not to to strike at that point, knowing what it would mean to the bay area and they bought us one more day. meantime, b.a.r.t says its new offer willom last two weeks before they take it off of the table. so, needless to say, things got ugly here in a hurry. no strike tomorrow but we will be back here tomorrow doing it all over again. >> brian webb, thank you. >>> a new investigation identifies hundreds of tall buildings in

kpix 5's brian webb is outside the facility in castro valley with more. brian? >> reporter: ann, the space shut down the -- state shut down the care home on thursday. the patients have basically been on their own for the past 48 hours or so. almost their lifeline. the two staff members who stayed behind and a neighbor who had seen enough. crime tape crisscrosses a care facility shut down for two days still filled with patients but hardly any staff. >> i can't put my head around it. >> reporter: this woman who lives nearby asked us to hide her identity after complaining about the care at the home for 20 years. she says the past few days have been the worst and she called for help. >> the staff isn't over there. what's going on? >> reporter: when authorities arrived they found 14 patients inside including amputees, the bedridden and mentally impaired with only two workers caring for them. a janitor and a cook. >> it's kind of hard to fathom i mean you know -- they're human beings here. and we just leave people behind? >> reporter: the patients were moved to other

brian webb is outside the talks. brian, any sign they're closer to a deal? >> reporter: we have seen a couple of the union leaders coming and going. that means they have been here at least for a nine-hour day today after a 12-hour day yesterday and we're seeing more officials walking in right behind us. you can see we have our microphones set up here, hoping, expecting somebody to say something. that has been two hours now. and the mikes are ready to go but no one is willing to talk into them as of now. it will be ugly if a strike starts. you can imagine what it would do if the bart system goes away. a little more positive yesterday, bart's gm and politicians joining in the talk trying to reach an agreement. but we have learned that each group had not met face to face today and each group coming up with their next strategy before making a move. which might be a good situation for bay area commuters trying to get to work on monday without bart. >> we encourage people to be prepared. we have the buses on stand by. we have between 130 and 150 buses for monday i

let's get right to our brian webb. what are both sides so upset about, brian?> reporter: liz, well, we just received word maybe five minutes ago that bart management was back over this way to make some sort of statement to the media. we don't know exactly what they might say, why they're coming back over here. hopefully, it's some shred of good news to keep this from going to a strike at midnight after what's been a crazy day. they are in this building talking for 30 hours and it ended about 4 p.m. when union members came out and called management arrogant saying they had agreed to the money and they were this close to a deal until at the last minute bart through in a management clause the unions didn't like things like job duties, shifts, sick and overtime issues. management says since they gave unions the money they wanted, they deserved these new rules in place to improve operations and to make bart sustainable into the future. the union, they said, asked for an arbitrator to decide those issues and so far, bart has declined. so that was it. and after that,
