cnn's senior political correspondent brianna keilar is here with me and elise lavitt joins us live. elise, what can you tell us about the e-mails from colin powell? >> elijah comings, the ranking member of the the house oversight committee released the e-mails. secretary clinton said it was colin powell who advised her to use a private e-mail and said he did so. of course he used an aol account but he did not advise secretary clinton to use a private server. what elijah cummings said is that secretary clinton did not take his advice to skirt security at the state department and use a private e-mail, but at the same time secretary clinton did say that she relied on colin powell, it was colin powell that told her it would be beneficial for her to use the e-mail. a little bit of a mixed message coming out in terms of those e-mails. >> it's amazing to see these communications became public like this. what do they show? >> a few days after taking office secretary clinton e-mailed to secretary powell asking him what were the restrictions on your use of your blackberry? did you tuesday in

correspondent brianna keilar has the numbers for us.e're getting in the first national poll taken completely after the debate. what do these numbers show us? >> reporter: that's right. what it shows is that donald trump is about even where he was and hillary clinton has gotten a little bit of a boost following the debate. if you check out these numbers from this fox news poll of likely voters, they say 43% of them say they are now for hillary clinton. that is up two points from september 11, when we saw the last poll taken. donald trump at 40%, that's exactly where he was in september. garry johnson stays even, and jill stein bumps up a point. what you're seeing here is donald trump continuing to struggle to get above these low 40s, which is an area where he really needs to expand there, if he's going to have a shot, wolf and really speaks to this idea that many people, you'll remember our poll after the debate, 2-1 said hillary clinton won that debate. so you're seeing the positive effects for her on this. >> that's a national poll. we

our senior political correspondent, brianna keilar, joins us with the latest. clinton spending today defending what she said last night. what did she focus on? >> that's right. what she said last night, a promise, she's clearly sensitive to her iraq war vote still and promised there would be no ground troops used if iraq or syria. and she's gotten some criticism from people who say she's taking an important option off of the table here, anderson. she said that she would support american troops, special forces, doing reconnaissance assisting, indigenous or local forces and providing advisory roles which is the terminology currently used by the white house. some also thought that by not acknowledging that some special forces are currently in combat situations in iraq and syria, she was also, you know, sort of perpetuating this idea that there are no troops who are in harm's way. in fact, they are. some of them have actually died. donald trump hitting her on this saying she's telegraphing isis, she commented on donald trump not having a firm grasp of the facts whe

our senior political correspondent brianna keilar is on the scene for us. appeared with senator sanders. brianna, iowa, it's a critically important state and millennial voters very much on hillary clinton's mind. >> it certainly is, wolf, and millennials are so important to hillary clinton, not just in iowa but all over. you can look at the polls and see how she is underperforming compared to how president obama did in '08 and 2012. a new bloomberg poll out really putting this in perspective. she's beating donald trump but only by a -- about four points, so compare that to 2008 when president obama did so well with millennials, wolf. he had a 34-point advantage over john mccain. of course, that tightened up in 2012, but the spread then was only about 23 points. so you see how much ground she really has to make up. millennials account for a -- sort of a bigger chunk of the votership. they're a larger generation during this cycle. so it's so key for her. this is why we're seeing bernie sanders getting out there for her yesterday. he's going to continue to camp

i want to begin though with brianna keilar covering the clinton campaign and just within the past hourr so lots of pressure on clinton to release more medical details. >> that's right erin because she was not forthcoming about her pneumonia diagnosis. we didn't find out until sunday when you saw that video you just played that se had been diagnosed on friday and she'd spent the week prior being more accessible to reporters with this sort of trying to create more of an air of transparency. so she really undercut herself. so her campaign trying to make some aemds there. putting out some information people were demanding. a couple things we learned that were interesting, one was that she had had symptoms a week prior to her pneumonia diagnosis. so a full nine days before we found out. that she was and then we also learned that back in january she had had sinusitis and an ear infection that got bad enough with fluid in her ear that she had to have a tube inserted into her left ear. that is lead up to the iowa caucuses full steam ahead on the campaign trail and she went through that. all of
