this was a 5.9 earthquake in smith valley and you are in bridgeport. give us a general lay of the land as to where you were and what restaurant. >> i am pretty much in the heart of -- and smith valley is 25 or 30 minutes away so it is super close so we felt it and it was insane. >> i would say you definitely felt it because we felt that here in san francisco. i guess since you are closest to it in relation to everybody else that we are talking to, what exactly did you feel? >> i don't know if people have been on a boat or anything but if you have been on a pontoon boat and another boat passes you and you have those big waves and it feels like a smooth wave and that is what it felt like. >> had you felt a quake before or one this size before? >> i have never felt one this size but i have definitely felt one sleeping but nothing of this caliber. >> the pontoon boat was a good description. >> that gives us a good clear vision of that. i am curious. there have been a number of aftershocks and in fact, paul heggen has been telling us they are going into 25

highway 395 at bridgeport to the nevada state line. there is a canyon through there, walker canyon, which has had several rockslides and there are several campgrounds up there. we also have slides on state route 88 and 89 and all of our maintenance crews are out and deployed, looking to see what the damage is and if anybody needs assistance and how quickly they can get the boulders off the sides of the road. >> this is a very large undertaking to actually move these boulders and undoubtedly it will take time. you have any idea of delays and also if anyone has been injured by any of the falling rock? >> sure, no, we are diverting traffic heading northbound on 395 to state route 182, just out of bridgeport. that will take them through the western side of nevada to rejoin 395, further north. we have not been able to see what kind of damage has happened as our crews are rolling, but are not there yet. i am sure they will have some difficulty getting around the rocks in the roadway right now. >> you mentioned campgrounds or campsites, i thi

the latest from the usgs is showing 4.0 northwest of bridgeport. there was a 3.7 markleeville. these are all in the same general vicinity, and when we take a look at this map here, and in case you are wondering, it is like how fait really felt? you look at the epicenter, and you look back toward san francisco . i know i certainly felt it, and it was about 158 miles from the epicenter, so it was definitely felt across a large swath. i'm going to show you exactly what areas felt it. it was felt all the way up to the sacramento valley, also the san joaquin valley, and out toward the bay area. once again, a five to six is a moderate to strong earthquake, and this is concerning. we're seeing a lot of the aftershocks in this situation here, but we're hoping that was the strongest of it, and the ones that follow will continue to remain below that 5.9. so far, looking at the usgs. they have been under 5.9. the largest has been 5.9. >> sandhya, a couple of points. one, we know there have now been 25 , so more aftershocks have happened since he presented that information, and dr. lisi jo
