bridget smith, who heads up our sustainable streets effort, and she is doing a fine job. she has a great team of people working with her. another individual i need to bring up to speak to you today is our chairman of the mta, chairman tom nolan. [applause] >> good afternoon. i'm very proud to be here on behalf of the board of directors, joined with our distinguished vice chair. tomorrow, if the board of supervisors votes correctly, we will have a new chair, so we are very proud to report of the -- part of this. our board has had to do some very difficult things, had to make some really tough decisions in terms of budgeting, in terms of service, all kinds of things, but we are proud of what we have been able to achieve. i want to tell you that this was not hard for any member of our board. our board was unanimously supported every step of the way through, working with others in the city to make this great day happen. on behalf of all of our board, very proud to be part of this, and we look forward to the events coming shortly to make this plan a reality for all of us. than

. >> bridget smith. i am with the sfmta. we want to think the grand jury for highlighting these important issues. we have been working on projects to improve bicycling and other street projects. i cannot emphasize enough that the bike plan was recently adopted and to make changes at this early time in the process would be difficult. i think a lot of the recommendations we have gotten from the civil grand jury can be addressed in the current bike plan. we can go over that point by point if you like, or we can leave it at that for now and respond to questions later about how we believe we can address a lot of our portion to the bike plan that exists. chairperson mar: i think after public comment more of a back and forth at that time. >> thank you for inviting us to keep the continuing discussion going on. chairperson mar: thank you. >> i am the captain with the traffic company. we responded with a letter to the presiding judge with a response on each one of the items. we would be glad to take any questions and answers. chairpe

bridget smith will be happy to work with you on that. widening the sidewalks to negligent bikes, i completely agree we want to take care of the lanes and that's an issue we've discussed a lot. reckon hillary and how wide the streets should be and how much space needed for bicyclists and traffic in general. >> regarding the speed bumps we have applications in the back by traffic calming that people can pick up today and let us know about your needs to let you know. >> this gentlemen had his and up next. >> mr. mcclain, walker from the sunset district. there's an idea cranking around in my mind for some time and it's about a teachable moment and it's when the driver becomes a pedestrian and that moment happens in a very concentrated way when they have to put money in the meter and i wanted to suggest that and i'm sure there's all kinds of rules against doing this, but put little traffic pedestrian, driver rules in plain english, not fancy ordinance language right on the meter so they're confronted with one rule on one meter and one rule on
