we have nicole valdes in tampa and with us is britta merwin in gainesville. britta. >> good morning. just analyzing radar on the fox weather app. the eye itself is a big deal for inland locations, the eye will not move over gainesville. i have my eye set on lake city, florida between gainesville and tallahassee. you have a couple intersecting highways there, 10 and 75 with this shift of the storm, movement to north and northeast. look at ian areas that will get a taste of the highest winds. tropical systems are stronger than tropical storms, last one they had was andrea and peak wind was 45 to 50, gainesville probably had wind gusts stronger than that. it is interesting because a lot of inland location, talk about benchmark of storms, many inland locations are nontropical storms. idalia may change that from north florida to georgia. it will be a hurricane when it crosses the florida/georgia line. that is a big deal to see it extend further inland is game-changer and more areas will get a taste of strong wind. extent of having the wind toward the center is tren

britta merwin is in tampa. how bad is it expect ed to get y you?could be historic for the state of florida. for tampa bay where i am now, there's potential we could see the worst storm surge we've seen in decades. tampa specifically has kind of gotten lucky. yes, they've been on alert and a couple calls that were scary but in terms of peak storm submersible, there's not been a lot of that. irma back in 2017, everyone was prepared for that but a last minute defending championuation had a versers -- minute deviation had a reverse surge and all the water was out in the gulf of mexico. this time around, irma has now been retired and it was placed and replaced with the name idalia. it's exploding in the gulf of mexico as we speak and it'll push all this water over this sea wall. the sea wall by the way, about three feet down and that gives us a three feet give but we're expecting a 7-foot storm surge. that's water about here. that's a big problem. we're talking about not survivalable storm surge and that's why evacuations were called. i want to point ou
