we are now back on broadway. we've essentially made a full circle in about the last 15 or 20 minutes. these protests started at 5:00 tonight at frank ogawa plaza. and then at 6:00 pretty much sharp they started to move. it looked like police were anticipating this because the streets were closed ahead of them as they marched, there is a line kind of at the end of this lock block where you can't see them. now it appears we're marching now back toward frank ogawa plaza. again this has been a very peaceful protest. now as it really kind of spread out over at least a couple of blocks of people, it's very difficult to tell how many people have joined in as this has gone through the streets but we have seen no trouble just people voicing their opinion. >> all right, noelle walker live there on broadway as those protesters march back up toward frank ogawa plaza as she said keep in mind if you're going to be in downtown oakland there could be delay there is on broadway because of that fluent situation. >>> oakland police

it starts over 8th and broadway and works down to 14th and broadway. i want to show you this store right here. this metro pcs store is gutted. you can see the plywood. the door was broken down and all the phones from stolen from the store. there is nothing to be had in there at all. you can see the glass there on the floor. you can see also see a bunch of pamphlets trying to sell a new tablet. looters came in overnight and took out their frustration on the store. just across the street over at the smart and final we found crews cleaning up. they weren't able to start the clean-up until 2 a.m. because they had to get the go- ahead from police. once the oakland police department told them it was okay to start the clean-up, they boarded up the windows, clean up the graffiti, pick up glass from the sidewalk. a look from chopper 5, you can see what it's like in this hour in downtown oakland. it's quiet. you can tell that because there's a lot of damage a lot of people were out here last night. we hear in the hundreds maybe even the thousands how many people

broadway shows, same thing. and a soufrs success and his ruin. like strongest trait is the weakness like a lot of guys. spending thousands in casinos. and tremendously expensive broadway flops. when the market crashed in '29, he crashed with it. and he never, never recovered. once master of his own world, and he really was, he died in '36. and he had a quarter of a million dollars of debt and he dies tragically alone. now the forces that brought ziegfeld down is what fitzgerald said brought it down. and it is a near complete regard for disregard i should say, for inhibition. but i don't think the '20s were in manhattan. the blurry eyed that he chronicled in a book called, the story called the cram ck up. i don't think any other decade in the life of that cite was more alive or enduringly created. and it is really, these are shots from respectively the follies and show boat and in that year, 1927-28, there were more broadway productions than produced in my one year in any one time. this is the city as it looked at the beginning of the depression.

for this to happen i think it's important that person gets acknowledged there's no parking along broadway in that corridor they used to have it at 8 clock so now it starts at 10 because the restaurants complained so i think a person should be should be recognized for making this happen. the only problem is there has to be proper signage to make sure that happen that happens and the officers out there know it's exempt and 3 that the uber and tnc's know they they can't be interfering with the taxis picking up and dropping off because they have been given a pass by certain law enforcement officials and i think it has to be clear it's for taxis only and there's a cab stand already over there and it's so far down the block and it's a great spot it hasn't been painted yet so the problem is they are putting up signs but not painting curbs where there's official cab zones and it's a problem making enforcement difficult and making recognition by the public and unfortunately when you have it so far from the corner, then it is a problem because the people are flagging at corners they are not going d
