this accident happened this morning before 5:30 before broadway and ridgeway. amy hollyfield is live at the scene. you just learned new information on what the officer was doing when the crash happened. >> reporter: a spokesperson for the police department told me that the officer was on his way to a priority call. they don't know if his lights and sirens were on or the primary officer or the cover. that is also under investigation. his car was so badly damaged it did have to be towed out of here. the officer was southbound on broadway when he he knocked over a light pole and hit a tree in the median. and another car was involved. they don't know who hit who at this point. the other driver was okay. not hurt. just the officer. a witness told us he helped pull the officer out of his car and he said the officer was pretty shaken up. the crash was loud. a few people here were talking this morning about how it woke them up. >> boom, boom, bang, bang. and like -- because it's quiet up here. >> reporter: officers shut down this block of broadway at 42nd as they inves
