you know, actually standing at the intersection of 17th street and broadway, broadway and annapolis, indiana, both 6202. this is the spot where on april 4th, robert kennedy gave his impromptu speech, so to speak, informing the crowd of martin luther king's assassination. i was in a position on this side. so if you look at the picture up there of robert kennedy at the time he gave his speech, of course, this a collage. but that was that was the angle from which i was looking at. and i was no more than 25 feet away. so i was relatively close being here as early as i was. so i got a good spot. we did get here early. 24 years old at the time, just got out of the navy the year before i came home and in annapolis it changed somewhat. i mean, this was still a predominantly black neighborhood. i had spent four years in the navy and become a journeyman printer and i came home and i couldn't get a job. based on the experience because. it was 1968 and i was a young black man, basically. so i was here with a group of young people about my age and some maybe a little younger. i wanted to see for
