we have josh brolin with us here. how are you? >> great. how are you?the quintessential co-dependent relationship, and i get to do it with this amazing french actress who i get to kiss and get a little taste of french in there. she's amazing. i mean, she was very nervous. you know, she -- it's like it's green screen, all this stuff. it's very different. >> you've worked with green screens before, obviously "men in black." >> this is different. >> you go in there and literal ly the corner of the whole warehouse is green. you shoot in one part of the warehouse the whole time, so you go in and, say, i'm driving a car. there will be a steering shaft or steering wheel, three green apple boxes, and you're surrounded by green the whole time, so you don't really know what you're doing until you see the movie. >> yeah. how does it affect how you act? what do you have to do differently? >> resort to imagination. you don't. you resort to his, frank miller's drawings, and robert rodriguez is sitting there, and he's a very inspired guy and he's saying, okay, this is

. >> reporter: then, there's josh brolin's tortured character, whose love for his ex, is leading him>> it's like a perfectetaphor for addiction. he sees her and that's all he needs. and he gets sucked right in. >> right there is a dame to kill for. >> reporter: and so does the viewer, who is sucked in by filmmaker robert rodriguez. perhaps best known for his cult hits like "dusk till dawn." and "spy kids." >> really starting to tick me off. >> reporter: rodriguez doesn't just direct, he shoots, edits, even composes the movie's music. and he uses the newest green screen to create this fantasy netherworld, like diving into a cartoon. >> i call it the dream screen. it's anything you want it to be. and you can move so fast and keep an actor in a flow because you don't have to change locations. you're going into this sort of magical dreamscape of a world. it's like being a kid and playing pretend. and i love that. >> reporter: and yet, the explicit sexuality is far from child's play. in fact, it's a former bond girl from "casino royale," that steals the show. >> she's kind of a psychopath

it is just unbelievable -- >> jimmy: was he holding josh brolin, they're not together?you're like sitting there going is this going to work? and robert says don't worry about it. don't raise your arm, i'm going to put your co-star there. >> jimmy: how long since the first "sin city" movie came out? >> about ten years ago. >> jimmy: at that time, nobody had ever done anything like that before. >> no, green screen like that had never really been done. >> jimmy: the whole movie, you shoot the whole thing on the green screen. >> it's shot almost like theater style. the camera's facing one direction, the green screen's behind you. you have to do over, the actors and everything move around as opposed to the camera's moving. there's nothing there, there's tape on the floor. he's going to put the rain in, all this other stuff later. you're kind of working with your material. just working with the actor, or not. it kind of takes away from that idea -- i think acting's about listening, sharing, connecting. robert's like, no, you don't need that. oh, okay. >> jimmy: to hell with a

josh brolin, bruce willis. but the amazing thing is that it was shot entirely on a green screen.k do their weather every day on the green screen, that's how it looked for the actors on the set. and they would have nothing around them. the environment was fully green and they add in everything later. there were times when actors actually walked on treadmills. so if they walked hundreds of feet in sin city down an alleyway, that was on a treadmill. it's amazing they're able to do that. the problem with the new movie is that they don't intertwine the stories as well and the third act is very, very, very weak. i thought jessica alba was great in the beginning, but i thought she overacted at the end. skip the 3d, but only see it if you're a fan of the original. i had a chance to talk to josh brolin. >> i still have any original sin city ticket stub. >> oh, my god. that's amazing. high five. >> this is when your character is driving. how did that look on set for you? what do you see? >> steering column and then the steering wheel. it's weird, man. go into a room and you do a scene in a
