old brooklyn, new brooklyn. one thing that sometimes gets forgotten when people talk about gentrification and the shift from knowledge in the old to the new economy is that this shift also keep brought about dramatic changes in domestic life and these changes also help to reverse brooklyn's decline and in fact the decline of many other cities. first, the knowledge of jobs in media and design, law and education was proving especially appealing to educated women, even after they became others. while a lot of young knowledge economy workers are drawn back to the suburbs once they start families and begin to take notice of the local public schools performance, others are unwilling to tolerate the hour-long commute. it worked well enough for their own fathers who were often the single breadwinning parent. they want to live where they work and with that, they want their kids to be safe. the decline in crime in new york and brooklyn in the 90s was really, haste and the gentrification that had already begun in ways that

brooklyn. when i tell people that these days, new yorkers in particular i get this look in their eyes and it looks a little bit to me like nv. so, i can understand why. in 2010 the statistics grew, nate fisher call that the best neighborhood and all of new york city. it's an amazing place to own a home. i really have to admit to that we don't feel that lucky. lucky is the guy down the street who bought two houses. of course in 1982 when i when i tell people i knew i was buying a house in brooklyn they didn't look envious. they looked alarmed. brooklyn was not the kind of place that a jewish girl from suburban philadelphia should aspire to live in. people who could, were leaving for the suburbs not vice versa. there are many moments over the next few years that i wondered what we had been thinking. i think particularly of a moment in 1990 when the mother by younger daughter's classmate had a guy to her head as she exited to trying to do christmas shopping. we took the q train a lot and still do.

a brooklyn man is in custody.. charged in the murder of a female jogger. karina vetrano was killed back in august, near her home in queens, new york. she was beaten, strangled, and sexually assaulted. detectives followed hundreds of leads. last week they approached 20-year-old chanel lewis for a d-n-a test. they say it links him to the crime. police say lewis confessed to killing vetrano. he was arraigned last night, and charged with second-degree murder. police do not believe he and his victim knew each other. one hiker is dead, and three others injured.. after sliding 300 feet down an icy ravine in saturday.. in the san gabriel mountains, northeast of los angeles. the surviving hikers were rescued.. and rushed to a trauma center. one is in critical condition.. with head and back injuries. rescuers say the hikers didn't have the proper equipment for the icy conditions. the patriots were not the only team celebrating a big bowl win, last night. we also found out who won the 13th annual puppy bowl. team fluff handily beat team ruff, 93-to-38. that means the
