i am a scholar here at brooklyn middle school. brooklyn middle school is an arts integrated school located in the district of columbia public school system in washington, dc in march 2019, our lives changed forever. i was driving academically as a 6th grade scholar involved in athletics and afterschool activities. it was announced that we were going on spring break due to the pandemic. what kid would not be excited? it was supposed to be one week. it turned to 18 months of virtual learning. i am not going to lie, it was really hard. having to learn in a virtual setting, new 10 years -- teachers and keeping my grades up, that was a lot for a scholar entering his second year middle school. however, i excelled and remained on honor roll and made new friends virtually, despite my success, i hope to return to in person learning for my eighth grade year, my last year as a middle school scholar. i'm excited to be back in school. however, having to wear a mask all day is uncomfortable. but we know it is necessary for the health and safety
