we have a live shot coming from brooklyn. we understand the president has been briefed on the new york city subway shooting. that is all we have at the moment. anne-marie, in terms of what this is likely to do to that policy of may be leaning harder and on the gun crime issue, will this change the way he approaches it? this is obviously something that will garner an awful lot of headlines. how much support can the president generate, in terms of getting policies enacted in the near-term to maybe lean in on this problem? annmarie: we should say two things. number one, there's a lot we need to know about what happened at the subway station in brooklyn. number two, every time there has been some of these very devastating gun violence attacks in america, that has always prompted legislators, officials to come out and push for more to be done. the issue is that it always then comes back to legislation in congress. that is, of course, where it gets tricky. you really have a big partisan divide. guy: joining us from washington, than

bryan llenas is live in brooklyn. brian? >> we are awaiting the press conference which should start any moment now amid a manhunt for the suspect bid the suspect is described as a black male, 5'5", about 180 pounds. he was wearing a construction vest, in orange one, a gas mask as well. you can imagine that this area has been stabilized as an active crime scene from 20th street to 40th street between third and fifth avenue. that's a 20 block radius here in brooklyn, new york. this is a massive borough that in its own right would be a top ten large city here in the united states. an ongoing manhunt at the same time we are bouncing more information on the nature of the inert injuries as well as where this investigation stands. we now know at least 16 people were injured. we know eight are in stable condition in ny peeling gone. we also know five additional people are in fact have nonlife-threatening injuries at another hospital here in brooklyn. so do the math. that accounts for at least 14 of the 16 that we've been told have b

it's going northbound, going from brooklyn towards manhattan. and as it's pulling into the 36th street station, that's when the gunman puts on the gas mask, sets off the smoke, and begins firing and then fled and left behind the gun, a glock 9 millimeter which had apparently jammed, the gas mask, the bag that he was carrying and smoke canisters. more than one smoke canister, we're told. there was also a back pack found at the scene. it is unclear whether it belonged to the shooter, the gunman, or whether it belonged to somebody else, but in that backpack was found some commercial fireworks and a torch. it could be that belonged to somebody else and is unrelated but that's something they are looking into. there was some sort of gasoline container found at the scene or on the platform. that's something to check out. the important thing this person who fired these shots left behind the gun and also the bag that he was carrying and some of the smoke canisters. so that's enormously valuable evidence for the police to try to work with as they try to f

it's a very busy part of brooklyn. this shooting happened a little bit before 9 30 am local time here in new york. so that is exactly when people would be heading into the office or commuting even people not going into the office, which is the big commuter area there, of course. and one of the most highly den, most densely populated areas, not only of new york, but of the united states. so that's why you're seeing such a, such a response to this by the police and fire department. because clearly you could estimate that there were dozens, at least people in that subway station one that's like shooting ways. looking at some video from the scene that we're starting to get in. you can clearly see officials where the f, b, i jackets on the scene as well, showing that already there and also new york police officers and tactical gear as well. of course, whenever there's any sort of shooting like this in new york, the response is going to be overwhelming from the new york police department to try to secure the situation. clear
