brookside is key to all of that.nding, as we were at the time, £13,000 per half hour to build the sets, one of those brookside houses cost £25,000, so 40 episodes a week you could buy a house and you took at that cost. that was the idea behind that. creatively, it was about having grown up in the 19505, is creatively, it was about having grown up in the 19505, i519605, 19705 declined, watching coronation street on television, pre5enting what was slowly becoming at that time and rose tinted view of the plucky northerners living in their back—to—back terraced houses but being happy, all that kind of stuff. i wanted to write about britain in the 19805 in the post—industrial time. they were the two drivers behind it, really. the working class we re behind it, really. the working class were aspirational, they wanted to move on, they were just happy to 5tay move on, they were just happy to stay in those terraced houses, they wa nted stay in those terraced houses, they wanted to move out and enjoy the green of the suburbs.
