brown. so the reality is, these officers aware of mr. brown's past?s apparent drug use, aware of the fact that he was a felon who was in possession of potentially a weapon, although we don't know that's the case? there's never been any evidence of that. that would have been the only thing that would have justified these officers arriving on this scene, armed to the teeth, to take a man out. the only basis for that, the only justification for that would have been these officers feeling very much like they were under attack and under threat and so in the absence of that, i'm not sure there was anything these officers could have done in advance that would have justified their actions and their interaction with mr. brown. >> and brian, we saw just once through, about a minute of video from several different angles. what about the rest of the video? we know that the brown family was allowed to see up to 20 minutes, i believe, it was, of video. what now about the rest of the video potentially being released to the public? >> reporter: well, we are petitioni

brown's hands at all times.pears that in one vantage point, he may have been holding his phone, his right hand, if i'm not mistaken, was on the steering wheel. so his hands were seen the entire time. never at any vantage point that we see where mr. brown was a threat to the police. >> and just to be clear, the district attorney said when officers approached and attempted to open a door of mr. brown's car, the vehicle backed up and made contact with them, stopped, made contact again. did you see that? >> anderson, i'm not sure, i said this earlier during the press conference, i'm not sure what video the district attorney is talking about. all that i can tell you is this. they chose the footage we would get to see today. they chose the images that we would get to see. they also chose the evidence that they would redact. now, what we saw today was clear. when mr. brown put his car in reverse, there were no officers behind his car. now, there were two officers that it appears that they were both reaching out at the

says brown represented a threat to police, that the car brown was driving was, in the d.a.'. does that description match what you saw in the video that was released? >> no, it really doesn't. i watched the video several times. it's not the best quality video, but i was able to see enough to really form an opinion. the officer that was trying to open the door when the vehicle began to move, he was, in fact pulled. i didn't see him actually hit the ground because it was another person standing in my line of sight from the video. he did pull forward. the officers were spread fairly far apart and easily getting out of the way of the vehicle. again, many police departments, and i believe elizabeth city is no exception, have a policy in place prohibiting firing at a moving car. the reason for that is rather obvious. first of all, it's hard to hit a moving target. secondly, if you think a car with a driver is dangerous, try having a car with the dead driver coming at you. it just doesn't make sense. it's just not good practice. the officer was able to get away. now the car is drivi

how andrew brown was killed.e arm, one to the back of the head, which ultimately claimed his life. this as at the same time right now no one has been charged in brown's death. the body camera footage hasn't been released publicly. the family viewed what they said is roughly 20 seconds of it. according to a judge's order, it can no more than three weeks from where the public may be able to view it. the family is supposed to be able to see it within 10 days of the ruling, which is this saturday. the community has questions now as to whether brown posed a risk to police officers, to deputies that responded. demetri williams lives down the street from brown and knows what she saw. here is how she described it. >> i would never thought i would get to this age and feel like nobody is treated fairly, you know, '60s, '70s, but 2021? it's supposed to be equality. >> reporter: miss williams said what she watched when the shots were fired, she came out of the house and walked down the street and saw deputies, in her words,
