according to a team of brown university kids between the ages of five and 11 have a suicide rate of .17 per 100,000 children. that jumps by 5% once a kid reaches teenage year. it's unusual trend because black teens and young adults have lower suicide rates than their white peers. researchers are not sure why. one third of the suicide victims had attention deficit, hyper activity disorder the most mon. they say that adhd can make people impulsive. the child mind institute has come up with a list of things that parents and guardians can do to help children with suicidal thoughts and feelings. first may seem obvious. show them love. these days with so many things going on, kids can end up unsure where they fit in. stay in touch. know where your child is, get to know their friends. minimize conflict. choose your battles wisely. rebel. it's a parent's job to decide where to set limits. if you think your child might be suicidal, talk openly about it. sometimes people, not just kids, are afraid to open up. finally, if you're worried your child will attempt suicide, call 911 or take your child
