joel brown has more information from the white house. suicide car bomber set off his explosives at the height of the rush hour, turning part of kabul street in to chaos. the taliban claims responsibility. the blast killed at least 17 people and injured 80 more. it happened right in front of the embassy of india. there were a lot of workers cleaning the canals, this man said, most of them have been killed. this is the latest in a string of attacks that have shattered the relative calm in afghanistan's capital. taliban fighters beauvergne to ramp up the violence ahead of the elections and they haven't stopped. this morning's blast comes as the white house weighs a request by the top general in afghanistan to send 40,000 troops to fight the taliban and keep them from giving safe haven to al-qaeda. >> they commander in chief is city studying the question and talking an a shift in strategy. as the president considers his opposition he is faced with opposition from his members of sending more troops even if it is not full 40,000. >> military p

heather brown reports to wjz to see which will speak louder, actions or words?reporter: the head of the u.n.'s nuclear watchdog agency is now in iran. he's setting up an inspection of the country's uranium enrichment facility a plant fueling up an international firestorm. a plant allowing u.n. inspectors on to the moot meeting. a concession that put nuclear peace talks back on track. in a speech on saturday, iranian president mahmoud ahmadinejad blasted president obama. saying he made a big and historic mistake in denouncing iran for hiding the nuclear site from the world. the facility is partially hidden in a mountain and sits next to a melttry base heightening fears among the u.s. and key allies that iran is working to secretly develop nuclear warheads. the international community is threatening sanctions if iran does not freeze its nuclear operations. new penalties could target iran's energy, financial and telecommunications sector. >> iran must demonstrate through concrete steps that it will live up to its responsibilities with regard to its nuclear program.

also with us, pat brown, criminal profiler. pat, since we're on the topic of the investigation, we're getting that feeling from authorities that it is someone in this community, and someone knows something. are you seeing that? >> well, i agree with the sheriff that it is someone in the community, because her body wouldn't have been dumped into a local dumpster if it was somebody who was going to travel through town and dump her somewhere else. sometimes we say this, the police department comes out and says, somebody knows something, everybody says, then i must know that the guy committed the crime or he must have told me or so odd behaving, i know it's him. but it's more subtle than that. the problem is, you're talking about a sexual predator, a psychopath who probably always has odd behavior. what is different about his behavior now. that's what's more difficult for people to identify. >> yeah. let's bring in somer's dad, samuel thompson. samuel, are you in contact with investigators? are they telling you much at this point?
